Into my curvy DFH pint glass, pours a crystal clear amber gold with a frothy white head. Retention is excellent, lasting some several minutes, and leaves big blots of lacing down the glass. The aroma is decidedly hoppy, loads of juicy hop oils and light fruits, with perhaps the faintest of wheat malt behind.
The taste follows suit, a hop fest in the wheat vernacular. Starts out with hops oils and light juicy fruits before quickly turning a bit of bittering pine on, with the wheat malt skating below the surface, registering, but only glancing. The fruits come back in force in the middle through end, as the carbonation gives its slight tingle. The finish leaves the juicy pine oils lingering, slightly bitter.
I kept glancing back at the beer, sure I was drinking something other than a wheat beer. As it is, if ST has invented the imperial wheat beer, its a hoppy bastard, almost beyond the point of recognition. Still, interesting enough to drink.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but probably over 3 years old. Pours hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of honey, wheat, bread, light caramel, grapefruit, orange, floral, grass, pepper, clove, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt and hop notes; with solid strength. Some light oxidation is present, but not bad. Taste of honey, wheat, bread, light caramel, floral, orange, grapefruit, grass, pepper, clove, and earthy yeast spiciness. Good amount of earthy pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of honey, wheat, bread, citrus, floral, grass pepper, clove, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Light oxidation present in the taste as well, but not bad. Very nice balance of malt and hop flavors; with good malt/spiciness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this a very good imperial wheat beer, even with the age. Good balance of malt, hop, and spicy flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
