Appearance 3.5: Lovely golden-orange and completely transparent. Nice 1/4" head quickly faded.
Smell 3.5: Interesting bouquet. I smell a sweet malt and slight hoppiness followed by a strange coconut scent. No pumpkin that I can detect.
Taste 2.0: Front features a type of burnt cardamum flavor that is detestable and the overshadowing coconut scent and flavor makes it even worse. This fades quickly into a middle that is somewhat bitter, but even here the coconut and spice won't leave my palate alone. The finish is somewhat harsh with hints of saltiness and a strange marshmallow taste. In the aftertaste, some hops seep through, but the destination is not worth the journey.
Mouthfeel 3.5: Good. Certainly would enhance the taste of the beer but the taste is not...uh....not to my preference.
Overall 2.5: Not my favorite beer. I rarely (if ever) stop drinking a beer and get rid of it, but I did this time. In my opinion, there is just too much going on here in this brew and most of it is not to my liking. This Halloween pumpkin beer was certainly all TRICK and no TREAT for me. I'll never look at Pepe Lopez the same way.

July 2014 - Bottle dated May 2014. This years model seems less sweet, with a slight hoppy bitterness. The aroma is still highly spiced but it does not carry with the dryness left on the palate. I was expecting/hoping for something a tad sweeter. There have been occurrences when I was told it was "too sweet" for some tastes. This version should bring those to the fold.
As for me, I'll wait until I taste some on tap.
A last thought: I assume the appearance earlier in the year, each year is to garner maximum shelf space in the seasonal aisle, but it's 90+ with high humidity today in NYC & just as I resist making pumpkin pies until the leaves start to turn, I think this may strike me more pleasantly in a few months.
08/20/13 On tap. This years model. I'm a big fan of this brew. This time around it feels a bit tamer on the mouth-feel and lingers on the tongue. Still a wonderful thing.
12/06/11 Once again, if it's on tap I'm not that far away. Whether it's from a hoard in the cooler or a fresh batch Rattle n Hum is on the case.
2012 Why I'm here today. This is a destination brew. If it's on your radar make a bee-line. Don't dilly-dally because it won't be there long.
2012 So glad to find this so late in the Pumpkin season. IMO this one gets it right. It's unique without being a side show novelty.
11/06/11 The 2009 vintage. BULLS EYE! This really hit the spot. Rarely do I order a second of the same brew @ Rattle n Hum because they have such a wide selection, but this one just wouldn't let me go. So. Tier needs to run this from Sept to March & then some. If there is beer in heaven, have 1 of the taps running this stuff.
