I'm reviewing a bottle stored from last year.
Appearance: It pours a bright copper body with a thin foamy head. Retention is good and clarity is incredible.
Smell: Wow! I never thought a beer could smell this good. It smells like a freshly baked pumpkin pie with a dose of caramel, nutmeg, spice (perhaps cinnamon?), and a light touch of clove as the beer warms.
Taste: It mainly follows the nose. The nutmeg and pumpkin pie flavors dominate at first but then there are light notes of caramel and clove. The pumpkin pie flavors then return with a lightly bitter hop punch to round out the aftertaste.
Mouth feel: It has a "buttery" feel which is complimented wonderfully by a small amount of carbonation. I wish it was a little "heavier."
Overall: Letting a bottle of this age for a year was a great idea. It was even better than I remembered. Imagine the best pumpkin pie you have ever had made into a beer; that is what you have here. This is by far the best pumpkin ale I have ever had and one of my favorite beers.
