Poured from a 22oz bomber. The bottle suggested a goblet, so into the Chimay glass it went.

Pours a copper color with an orange tinge that already suggests pumpkin. Big but short-lived head, slightly off-white. The aroma is massively pumpkin-y. The aroma is spicy as well, the pumpkin and additional spices blending with spicy hops. The taste follows suit. I'm going to go ahead and declare this the best pumpkin beer I've had this year. Pumpkin (meat, not spice) dominates this beer. There's that great vegetable sweetness, and if I'm not mistaken, there's some caramel as well. Unlike many pumpkin beers, the spice here takes much more of a supporting role, rounding out the sweetness and serving as an effective substitute for bitter hops to clean up the finish. Sweetness does linger a bit, but believe me, that's a good thing. It stays very drinkable throughout, with no hint of the rather hefty alcohol content. I regret waiting until so late in the season to try this one. It really exemplifies what a pumpkin beer should be.

July 2014 - Bottle dated May 2014. This years model seems less sweet, with a slight hoppy bitterness. The aroma is still highly spiced but it does not carry with the dryness left on the palate. I was expecting/hoping for something a tad sweeter. There have been occurrences when I was told it was "too sweet" for some tastes. This version should bring those to the fold.

As for me, I'll wait until I taste some on tap.

A last thought: I assume the appearance earlier in the year, each year is to garner maximum shelf space in the seasonal aisle, but it's 90+ with high humidity today in NYC & just as I resist making pumpkin pies until the leaves start to turn, I think this may strike me more pleasantly in a few months.

08/20/13 On tap. This years model. I'm a big fan of this brew. This time around it feels a bit tamer on the mouth-feel and lingers on the tongue. Still a wonderful thing.

12/06/11 Once again, if it's on tap I'm not that far away. Whether it's from a hoard in the cooler or a fresh batch Rattle n Hum is on the case.

2012 Why I'm here today. This is a destination brew. If it's on your radar make a bee-line. Don't dilly-dally because it won't be there long.

2012 So glad to find this so late in the Pumpkin season. IMO this one gets it right. It's unique without being a side show novelty.

11/06/11 The 2009 vintage. BULLS EYE! This really hit the spot. Rarely do I order a second of the same brew @ Rattle n Hum because they have such a wide selection, but this one just wouldn't let me go. So. Tier needs to run this from Sept to March & then some. If there is beer in heaven, have 1 of the taps running this stuff.
