On tap at The Local Chophouse, Harrisonburg, VA.
Best pumpkin beer I've had, hands-down.
The great thing about this beer is that it tastes like PUMPKIN, *not* pie spice. There's a great earthiness to it that makes it very attractive. That's not to say that it's not sweet, which it is - slightly - so you'll definitely want to have this one with food. I had no idea it was 8.6% until I got home and looked it up. It's clearly strong, but doesn't taste like it's anything over 6 or 6.5%.
Smooth, rich, well-balanced, and pleasant, it evokes the colonial North Atlantic in a glass -- Washington Irving in liquid form, really.
It's a knockout with artisanal goat cheese served over butternut squash puree. It would be a winner with Thanksgiving Dinner, or a slice of pumpkin pie. I recommend it with something savory, though, to balance the sweetness.

In my opinion, Pumking is hands down, the best beer in the world. If it has ever been taken into outer space, it's probably the best beer there too. And it's not just it's "pie-in-a-glass" taste.
As your glass comes toward you, you first experience the beautiful color, then the wonderful aroma and then the perfect taste. Mouth feel is good too. If you like to just enjoy 1 or 2 beers, Pumking has substantial ABV that lessens the need for multiples.
It must be tough to brew a good pumpkin ale because I have tasted so many bad ones. There are none better than Southern Tier Pumking.
