I bought a big bottle and poured into small highball glasses, I was sharing. Very nice of me huh? The appearance was amber colored with a slight body to it.
The smell had typical pumpkin pie smells to it, slight nutmeg, perhaps some cinnamon. It didn't smell perfumey though like some other pumpkin beers out there.
The taste is where this became a slight letdown. I was excited that it wasn't so heavy on the aroma and anticipated a pumpkin beer that wasn't too sweet. Well it deleivered there but it didn't really have much taste at all. The major taste throughout the beer was nutmeg with a hint of clove on the finish. Where was the pumpkin?
If they had named it the nutmeg ale, it would have been more appropriate.
Other than the misleading name of the beer, this is a decent beer. I would serve it with turkey, regardless of the absence of pumpkin, because it is flavorful.
