Southern Tier's Imperial Pumking Ale is brewed in the Pumpkin Ale style. It happens to be one of their most highly anticipated annual releases. I picked up a bomber of this at Smokerise for $7.99. Shared with my girlfriend.
Poured from a bomber to 2 snifters. Served in the low 40'sº Fahrenheit, as per recommended by Southern Tier.
(Appearance) Pours a white frothy head with clingy lacing and slightly above average retention. Color is very solid shade of crystal clear orange with subtle hurried carbonation. Decent appearance. 3.5
(Smell) Very distinct pumpkin, roasted and caramelized, with some hefty pie crust included. Smaller aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Really thorough, filling heavy aroma. Very pleasing. 4.5
(Taste) Very tasty pumpkin presence up front, some fainter spice blends, caramelized crust and a bit of booze. Thorough pumpkin flavor and the heavy toasted bread tones pair together for a deliciously filling caramel pumpkin pie flavor. The spices are just the right level to round out the flavor in this beer, complimenting, but not overwhelming the palate. Just wonderful- in my opinion, it is the definitive pumpkin ale flavor. 5
(Mouthfeel) Lightly carbonated, with just a bit of air, but mostly lightly chewy with a pleasing slickness. Body is medium/heavy for the style, and medium overall. Alcohol presence is medium; not flawlessly concealed. Good texture for the style but the alcohol needs a bit more toning down. 3.5
(Overall) Certainly my favorite Southern Tier beer to date, and an excellent Pumpkin ale overall, one of the best of the best. Highly drinkable and would pair perfectly with, of all things, a pumpkin pie. Here's to the fall! 4.5

Poured from a bomber, dated 07/24/12, into my Deschutes tulip glass...
A - Pours a crystal clear golden orange color, with a slim 1/2 finger off-white head.
S - Smells very much like a pumpkin pie, with grahamcracker crust. Slightly sweet, with some great spice notes, and of course there's the pumpkin. Smells great.
T/M - Taste matches the smell perfectly. It really does taste like a liquified pumpkin pie.Great creamy pumpkin flavor, nice sweet grahamcracker malt base, and great cinnamon and nutmeg spice notes. One of the most complete tasting pumpkin brews I've had. Light-medium mouthfeel, good carbonation.
O - Southern Tier has done it again! A very complete and well rounded pumpkin brew. I've had other pumpkin brews that captue the flavor of pumpkin, and even pumpkin and associated spices, but not pumpkin, spices and pie crust. This is one amazing brew, and highly recommend this for any pumpkin lover, and would definately buy again.

A - Slightly cloudy, orange, actually the color of pumpkin, mild carbonation.
S - Ah, yes. Like walking into grandma's kitchen. Butter. Rich, brown sugar. Hard to pick out the spice. I think it's nutmeg. Rich and luscious. It is amazing that a beer can smell this way.
T - The same as the smell, but a bit less buttery and with a bit of an alcohol burn through the sip. I don't find the beer particularly sweet, in fact it's rather dry, but there is a light sweetness that comes through as it warms. The flavor is highlighted by the butter and spices. It's very much like a pumpkin pie beer. I think it may actually be a bit too strong. If the alcohol was backed off (or at least masked) a bit, the rest of the flavor would come out even more.
M - It's maybe a bit grainy from pumpkin, but just slightly. Medium full mouthfeel, not very carbonated. Very appropriate.
O - I think this is the best Pumpkin beer made. I didn't care much for this style before trying Pumking. Now I try other Pumpkin beers just to find out if there's anything better. I haven't found anything that compares yet.
