Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
A – Brilliant amber. Clear with visible trails of carbonation. Thin white head. Good lacing.
S – Fresh squeezed orange and pineapple juice. Malt sweetness really emerges as it warms.
T – An strong bitterness up front, followed by a combination of herbal and piney hops with slight hints of citrus. The bitterness does not let up, but a sweetness from the malts does emerge and does an excellent job of countering the hops. The bitterness continues, coupled with a piney hop finish and a lingering boozy sweetness.
M – Moderate bodied and moderately carbonated. Sweet finish.
O – This beer is a strong (literally by the ABV) showing. From the blends of Hoppe and Unearthly I was expecting a sweet experience and was not disappointed. However, from the diverse hop bill, I was expecting a little more hop complexity. Instead I got a very bitter, sweet beer that was good, but not great. Again, this was a solid brew, but a well-crafted brew (not just a blend of two others) could probably be better.

A: deep gold/pale amber ale - clear - topped with a full head of off-white foam; modest lace trails
S: muted aromas of citrus and tropical fruits; some caramel-esque sweetness
T: got some pine resin and grapefruit, toffee-sweet, earthy; not too bitter - rather moderate
M: decent carbonation, slick and smooth, medium weight, bittering close
O: decent, but didn't really catch my attention - seems like this "American strong ale" genre is rather amorphous - never know what you're gonna get - this had some DIPA characteristics, but was a little thinner in body, and even with all the hops involved, wasn't overpoweringly hoppy. An enjoyable ale, but lacking the allure to bring me back for another. Seeing as how my review is below the average, this may simply be a case of a style that, while broad, isn't (typically) to my particular tastes.
Saw two entries for this ale - hope I chose the right one.
