Beer Thirty Tasting
Fortunately, I was prepared for this one before I took the first sip. As a matter of fact, I was so tired of being prepared that I took a big gulp. Don't do that. Sip this one. This beer is all over the place. It is like hophophop wallop maltcaramelcitrus hophop malt hop slam upside your head. After this beer corrects your brain, it goes down easy. Sure - every so often it seemed like something was kicking me from behind my left eye. But there are worse things to get use to.
Mouthfeel? There is no mouthfeel. There is no mouth...I have no mouth but...
Drinkability is high. Very high. That can be a dangerous thing. As a matter of fact, I could see someone thinking the hint of citrus meant this was just as good as juice with breakfast. Dangerous.
Overall, I have to give this one pretty decent marks for what it is and the goal. How long before the twitchwink twitchwink goes away?

A: deep gold/pale amber ale - clear - topped with a full head of off-white foam; modest lace trails
S: muted aromas of citrus and tropical fruits; some caramel-esque sweetness
T: got some pine resin and grapefruit, toffee-sweet, earthy; not too bitter - rather moderate
M: decent carbonation, slick and smooth, medium weight, bittering close
O: decent, but didn't really catch my attention - seems like this "American strong ale" genre is rather amorphous - never know what you're gonna get - this had some DIPA characteristics, but was a little thinner in body, and even with all the hops involved, wasn't overpoweringly hoppy. An enjoyable ale, but lacking the allure to bring me back for another. Seeing as how my review is below the average, this may simply be a case of a style that, while broad, isn't (typically) to my particular tastes.
Saw two entries for this ale - hope I chose the right one.
