Appearance - beer pours a light copper that is fairly clear. there is a good amount of carbonation occurring as well. the head is a nice soft white, some good volume and real good lacing. as well, some nice lasting power.
Smell - really nice tasting beer, some good hops surrounded by malts. there is a nice hint of pine with some good spices. i can also pick up a slight hint of caramel as it warmed.
Taste - i found the maltiness came through a lot with a not a strong focus on pine/hops. the hops are present, faint but you can taste them. I did not taste much of the caramel either.
Mouthfeel - found there was a little more malts coming through on this beer. there was a slight metallic flavour added, which probably came from the alcohol.
Overall - this is a real decent beer and i was pretty impressed, i could make this a solid session beer if needed and would buy again.

A: deep gold/pale amber ale - clear - topped with a full head of off-white foam; modest lace trails
S: muted aromas of citrus and tropical fruits; some caramel-esque sweetness
T: got some pine resin and grapefruit, toffee-sweet, earthy; not too bitter - rather moderate
M: decent carbonation, slick and smooth, medium weight, bittering close
O: decent, but didn't really catch my attention - seems like this "American strong ale" genre is rather amorphous - never know what you're gonna get - this had some DIPA characteristics, but was a little thinner in body, and even with all the hops involved, wasn't overpoweringly hoppy. An enjoyable ale, but lacking the allure to bring me back for another. Seeing as how my review is below the average, this may simply be a case of a style that, while broad, isn't (typically) to my particular tastes.
Saw two entries for this ale - hope I chose the right one.
