Poured from a 650ml bomber into a Duvel tulip. Store had sticker date of Jan '12 and it just arrived when my buddy got it so it's fresh. It was a hazy orange amber color with good carb streams. It had a good sized head that settled into a central foam cap and good collar. Decent lacing but not much sticking.
The aroma was good and featured a very rich sweet aroma from tropical fruits, caramel and brown sugar mixed with floral and piney hops. Good but wish the hops were a little more in the mix. The taste follows the aroma with a good initial sweet dosage that is then complimented with the hops. Ends with a sweet taste and again wish the hops were more of the story. I love the 2 base beers used in this blend but something about the mix is just a bit off for me. Still very good but not the home run I hoped for. Full mouthfeel with crisp carbonation and sweet aftertaste.
Overall, see above for details but while good it wasn't great for me. As such, I'd probably hunt down Unearthly instead of getting another of these. Not avail in TX (rumor that coming soon though) so had buddy ship from Chicago. Rotation - see above. [N;O]

A: deep gold/pale amber ale - clear - topped with a full head of off-white foam; modest lace trails
S: muted aromas of citrus and tropical fruits; some caramel-esque sweetness
T: got some pine resin and grapefruit, toffee-sweet, earthy; not too bitter - rather moderate
M: decent carbonation, slick and smooth, medium weight, bittering close
O: decent, but didn't really catch my attention - seems like this "American strong ale" genre is rather amorphous - never know what you're gonna get - this had some DIPA characteristics, but was a little thinner in body, and even with all the hops involved, wasn't overpoweringly hoppy. An enjoyable ale, but lacking the allure to bring me back for another. Seeing as how my review is below the average, this may simply be a case of a style that, while broad, isn't (typically) to my particular tastes.
Saw two entries for this ale - hope I chose the right one.
