Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a wine glass.
Appearance: Beer is nice and thick, a deep cola color with dark brown accents in the light. A medium-bodied caramel head fizzes down to nothingness rather quickly...no messing around with this one.
Smell: A beautiful amount of sweet chocolate flavor, along with some mildly roasted coffee tones. Just a perfect combination --- some slight bitterness, but mostly warm alcohol and malt in the background. Superb!
Taste: Just a touch of sourness (almost reminiscent of a cola or citrus soda) is hidden within this beautiful bouquet of chocolate and caramel malts. Coffee is more of an afterthought here, but then again, this isn't advertised as a "coffee" brew. Sweetness is near-cloying, but otherwise indelible. Bitter as bones in the aftertaste, with just a bit of dark chocolate hanging on for the ride.
Mouthfeel: Beer is well-balanced. Thick on the tongue, and continues to fizz long after the initial flavor has worn out its welcome. Once the fizz dies down, the beer is paradoxically thinner, and slides easily down the throat. Awesome!
Overall: A beer worth its price. This was $8.99 for a deuce-deuce, and I can easily savor it all night long.
