Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.
A- Black as night with a moderate head and very little lacing.
S- Chocolate liquor right off the bat. Upon warming up, notes of malt and burnt raisins kick in.
T- Well, the name of this beers does not lie. Rich, dark, and bitter chocolate notes give way to some slight marshmallow notes and toasty malts. I was hoping for a little more nuance to show through upon warming up, but it did not happen.
M- Fairly thin for the style. Slight alcoholic warmth, but not enough to balance things out. Perhaps a little syrupy after some time being open.
D- Well, it is darn tasty. Really, it is just a chocolate blast. Though not extremely balanced, it is actually pretty drinkable. I would not think this was 11% alc. of the bottle did not say so. I drank this on its own. Next time would like tom pair it with a dessert containing some tart and bitter fruits. Man, this just begs to be utilized in cooking application. Add to mole sauce? Perhaps some sort of reduction.
Once again, Southern Tier fails to disappoint.
