Pours black-black, darker than a black steer's tookus on a moonless prairie night. With some beers you have to get your nose in the glass in order to properly smell what you're cooking with. Not so with Choklat - it hits you as soon as the beer hits the glass. Chocolate, obviously. Dark, bitter, straight-from-the-Swiss-Alps chocolate - this isn't messing around.
Taste is really over-the-top - no points for subtlety here - but that's the idea. It's like you're drinking a big, hoppy, bitter IPA mixed with chocolate milk. The hops are noticeable but surprisingly well-masked. It's rich, creamy, smooth in the mouthfeel and incredibly drinkable. Points off for being a bit too bitter on the finish - and that's coming from someone who has never met a dark chocolate that was too bitter. I would have liked to see a more gentle, let-'em-off-the-hook finish - I could see this as a nightcap beer and that's about it. A solid effort for the style - definitely worth checking out.
