Intro: Split a 22oz. with a friend in snifter glasses.
Appearance: Thin head but large bubbles in the lacing, dark chocolate brown color with lots of carbonation on the glass. Swirls up a good head, with foam that looks like chocolate milk bubbles. The head is a light brown color. This beer’s appearance is just like Mokah and Jah’va.
Smell: Milk chocolate aroma that is sweet but not overwhelming with just a touch of alcohol smell in the background.
Taste: Taste reminds of a Hershey chocolate bar, sweet and rich but all chocolate with a slight bite from the alcohol. The alcohol is very subdued and is hidden very well by the chocolate.
Mouthfeel: Crisp feel with a sweet chocolate taste at the end. Not oily or coating as some stouts can do, just smooth and sweet.
Overall: All three of the stouts’ look, smell and mouthfeel are very similar; the main difference is in the taste. This beer has more of the chocolate and no coffee flavors, but not quite the balance as the Mokah which is a blend of the other two. Not enough difference in these three beers to warrant a drastic difference in rating, so all three fall out as the same base rating. Any difference is due to personal taste preferences.
