Oh man, just looking at that I can already tell I'm going to love it. Silky black body with plush tan head that dissipates, leaving just enough of a force to keep the walls in check...
That nose, though...
Velvety rich fudge. I just... I want like some brownies now or something. This is out of control. There's not much depth to it: I mean it's pretty much just rich deep dark fudge, but holy shit does it smell like delicious rich deep dark fudge.
Do you want to guess what it tastes like?
If you guessed delicious rich deep dark fudge... well you've probably been reading this little note up above. Beautiful silky mouthfeel, effervescence dancing on the tip of the tongue and good thick creamy mouthfeel. This is a bit more bitter than I would have guessed based on the aroma: I was expecting more cold alcoholic hot chocolate, but it's more complex than that. There's certainly that cocoa chocolate dominance, but there's a bitterness that's not all just dark chocolate. Dark fudge for sure, with enough hops to set up their own distinct camp in the middle...
Also hides the alcohol pretty well.
If you like fudge/chocolate and those types of stouts, this is an EXCELLENT example, with enough hop bittering to balance it and remind you that you're drinking a beer, not just a dessert. I can't believe it's taken me this long to pick one up. ST is a talented brewery, and this shines through in this offering. In fact the same can be said of most of their Blackwater Series.
