11 oz sample from a bomber
Pours a very dark brown to black color with a light brown head about half a finger tall. There is little carbonation coming out of solution and the dark color makes it impossible to assess clarity. The color is exactly where I would want it for a chocolate stout. Just enough brown to give the impression of chocolate. The aroma on this brew is beyond words. The best I can come is tootsie rolls. The chocolate is certainly the dominant smell. Taking a big sniff, I get a hint of alcohol, giving a little creme de caco influence, but there is little in the way of roast or other aromas that I would associate with the stout portion of this brew. The flavor is interesting. The tootsie roll chocolate is apparent immediately, but it is not overbearing as I have found in other chocolate stouts. It moves quickly to a nice solid roasted maltyness with a mild pine hop. All those flavors blend well together on the finish to bring the beer into harmony with itself. This one is tasty. Mouthfeel is thick with a light carbonation. It has a nice creamyness to it, letting me know that there are some dextrins in there. Overall, this one is a winner. It really sells the chocolate in the nose without coming across too dominant in the flavor. I like the slight bitter that comes on the finish, as it gives me a little more of a dark chocolate hint, which is enjoyable to me. I think the hype-machine got this one right. It is a good drink.

Bomber poured into stone snifter.
Pours a solid dark black with some mocha head. Aroma is an incredibly pungent chocolate smell, some vanilla and sweet caramel but barely distinguishable due to the chcolate. Taste is similar and fairly, except it has a strange taste towards the end due to the fake chocolate flavoring. This beer could be much better if they used real chocolate and not some nasty fake chemical flavoring.
