Poured very dark, almost black in color with a thin amount of coffee colored head.

The scent is of overwhelming chocolate, roasted chocolate malt, and a slight alcohol presence.

The taste is also dominant of milk chocolate, roasted chocolate malt, some notes of maple syrup and licorice. The high abv is almost nonexistant in the taste.

Full body, smooth and creamy, low carbonation.

This was an excellent beer, though the chocolate was so dominant the other flavors were able to be tasted. Also the high abv is hidden very well with the strong chocolate flavor.

Black, with a tan head. Looks thinner than I expect from an imperial stout as I pour.

Smell and taste live up to, and then some, the name of this beer. Great for dessert or a nightcap, alcohol is surprisingly well hidden (I could detect it slightly in the nose, not at all in the taste).

I loved this beer. My only complaint is that it doesn't have that thick, chewy body I want in an imperial stout. Still, I'll come back for more.

22 to nonic. One month old.

A - Opaque black, light tan head, lots of lacing. Shine a light at it and you'll see that the carbonation is in slow motion. Neat.

S - Straight up chocolate and caramel. There's even a chocolate lava cake smell, that maillarded chocolate pastry smell with the thick chocolate filling.

T - Chocolate and caramel at candy levels. There's milk chocolate, a hint of dark chocolate, and powdery cocoa. There's not really a beer taste. There's also a minor tart/sour/lemon element that doesn't quite jibe with the rest. That overlaps with a metallic note that doesn't jibe either. Those things want to be complexity but wind up discordant instead. I can mostly ignore these things and enjoy the chocolate, but I wish that discordance wasn't there. The metallic note lingers on the tongue in a way I don't want, though it's minor and somewhat less noticeable later in the glass as the chocolate dominates.

M - Thick and sticky, though actually less thick than the slowww carbonation would make you think.

O - This is more a dessert drink than a beer. It's pleasant in that light, but not as much in the context of beer. It is candy forward and not complex in the way that, say, Rogue's Chocolate and Double Chocolate stouts have other complementary layers going on. I hear people talk about beer ice cream floats and usually am turned off by the idea, but this would absolutely work for that. A scoop of vanilla or even mint chocolate chip in this would be a treat for any beer/dessert lover. I'm glad I tried it but won't get it again unless a fitting novelty situation presents itself. If I were rating dessert drinks, this would get a high score. As a beer, it's hard to rate it up.

A: Black. Tan head. Swirling it around, it doesn't look too viscous.
S: Definitely smell the dark chocolate. Coffee. Roasted bitterness but not too much. Medicinal notes.
T: Licorice sweetness in aftertaste which I'm not crazy about. Chocolate.
M: Medium body. Low carbonation.
O: I like the chocolate flavor, especially in the aroma. However, the aftertaste has this weird sweetness that is off-putting.

Served from bottle into snifter glasses.

A: Black, with small, dark head.

S: Chocolate milk, a small hint of roastiness, as well as something like liquorice.

T: More "spicy" than expected, with that liquorice-like or woody note being noticeable. Not too roasty, but there's definitely plenty of bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. That chocolate milk taste is quite prominent, as well.

M: Smooth and creamy, for the most part. Not too heavy-bodied.

O: An interesting and more-drinkable-than-expected imperial stout. The heavy alcohol content is not all that noticeable, either.
