Thanks to NoSingsOfPain for sharing this one.

Look: Black with a 1/4 inch tan head and good retention and some spotty lacing

Smell: Chocolate just like the name says with a touch of vanilla

Taste: Chocolate brownies with more chocolate brownies. This thing is literally choclate in a glass. Good but after about 5oz its overpowering

Mouthfeel: Thick body mild carbonation and a bit sticky

Overall: A great chocolate stout. Probably the most chocolate forward beer I have ever had oh and chocolate middle and end. The chocolate just goes on for days.

Poured from a 22 oz. capped bottle (Bottled 12/28/11) into a snifter glass.

A strong pour yields a 1 1/2-finger mocha-colored head that fades after a couple minutes to a clumpy dusting and thick foam ring. The body is a beautiful black with no traces of color when held to light. Decent lacing can be seen clinging to most of the glass throughout consumption.

The nose can be basically summed up as chocolate, chocolate, oh, and did I forget to mention chocolate? Yoohoo can't hold a candle to this nose.

Milk chocolate starts with some very light hints of roasted malt. Upon swallowing, even more milk chocolate comes out with just a hint of lactose acidity and slight alcohol warmth. A light coffee bitterness is noticeable between sips.

Full bodied with moderate carbonation, this beer is silky smooth and easy drinkin'. The body is thick and sticky and just a little coating, like a melted chocolate bar. The carbonation is difficult to notice but is definitely doing a lot of work in the background.

Pours a dark, dark brown w/ an milkshake like 2 finger chocolate head. Not quite a black hole, but you can't see into it at all. Good lacing on the side of my CBS snifter. The nose is mainly chocolate and malt. Sweet smelling, and really smells like a milkshake more than a beer- thus the markdown from a 4.5. I like it though, just not as a beer- more as a dessert. The taste however, takes things up a notch. You get hops added to the mix, and that makes it just complex enough to get the 4.5 score. None of the 10% abv is evident at all. Not sure where they hid it, but it's non-existant in the taste. I really like this- yes, it's a dessert, it's sweet, but ultimately- it's very tasty. Feel is super smooth, velvety- but the hops still manage to pop through the malt. Overall, this might be a little over the top... but I still like it. A lot. I'll definitely pick this up again. Cheers.

22oz bottle
Served in a snifter

A - It looks black. It presented an inch of brown head.

S - It smells like chocolate syrup.

T - It tastes like chocolate syrup. I get some roasted malt on the finish. No hints of alcohol at all.

M - Full

O - This beer tastes exactly as the name implicates, chocolate. I thought Young's Double Chocolate Stout had a lot of chocolate flavor. This is a dessert beer.

Reviewed from notes taken on 6/16/11.

Choklat pours dark, dark brown, close to black, in color. The head is a pretty mocha-tan and sits at a finger tall after a medium-hard pour into a snifter. Small, splotchy lacing is left behind on the glass post-sip.

The smell yields loads and loads of dark chocolate. It reminds me of a really dark and thick chocolate shake. A hint of caramel resides in the bouquet, along with just the smallest whiff of alcohol.

The taste is an ooey gooey dark chocolate bomb that has much more of a supporting caramel flavor than I smelled. It makes me think of a dark chockate version of a Rolo. The aftertaste is pretty roasty, with a little acidity, and lingering overtones of chocolate.

The mouthfeel is silky smooth on my tongue, with a pretty full-bodied and coating syrupyness. At the end of each sip there is a rather biting and acidic roastiness, accompanied by a little sting on the throat from the alcohol.

This is a great chocolate stout. It is so rich and flavorful and is, by far, my favorite Southern Tier beer. They really hit a home run with this one!

Pours a slightly thick, cola black-brown with just a film of mocha colored head that dissipates quickly leaving almost nothing on top of the beer.

Smells amazing... lots of dry chocolate notes, light hints of bourbon, earthy, with an alcohol burn.

This beer is quite aptly named. No hiding the chocolate in this one. Finished with alcohol heat. Other than those two characteristics, the rest is just nuances. Slightly dry/chalky middle from the cacao nibs.

Slightly thinner than I expected but smooth, very little carbonation.

This tastes awesome and is a nice warm beer for the winter. Too bad its a 60 degree day in February! This is a must try!
