Live tasting, bottle poured into Duvel tulip...

Appearance; pours onyx black, absolutely minimal mocha colored head with a moderate poor, retention is abysmal, and the fraction of a finger of head vanishes nearly immediately...

Smell; WOW. This guy just jumped outta the bottle and punched me in the nose. I knew I was holding onto this bottle for a reason. Rich, deep, thick, CHOCOLATE. Smells like liquified chocolate. Incredible. The smell of this beer literally jumps out of the glass from a few inches away...

Taste; D.A.M.N. This is like liquid, molten chocolate, lush, rich German chocolate, no, Swiss chocolate... There is some slight hints of malt and a little bitter coffee (or dark chocolate perhaps?) on the finish but this beer is absolutely properly named, and is countless different layers of chocolate.

Mouthfeel; this stout, is in my honest opinion, perfect in this area... Lush, thick, viscous, and decently oily going down... Coats the mouth and hangs around for a minute or two... Absolutely brilliant. Carbonation is ever so slight, but a beer like this doesn't need much.

Overall; this beer is in my opinion, damn near perfect... The smell and flavor is amazing, superb mouthfeel... All around an incredible beer... Southern Tier, you continue to impress me!

On Tap at Consumers Beverage in Buffalo, NY for growler fill.

A: Even with an agressive pour into a nonic pint, there is relatively little head that forms on top of a dark, dark body of beer. No light gets through this glass. (EDIT: Upon further investigation, if you pour like crazy, you get an excellent three finger creamy head with nice cascading action along the sides of the glass. Impressive growler.)

S: Chocolate, and lots of it. I mean, this is one of the best smelling beers ever. Smells like a freshly opened tub of Nesquik or a can of Hershey syurp like Grandma used to pour over ice cream. There is a faint vanilla scent, but this nose is just really chocolate milk. And its a sweet chocolate. Everyone's had a chocolate stout before and you smell dark, bitter chocolate. This one is literally sweet smelling, just like chocolate milk.

T: Again, its chocolate. It's sweet, smooth and delicious. The slight crisp finish keeps this beer from becoming cloyingly sweet. As you let it roll around in the mouth, its like letting a chocolate bar melt. So good and balanced. Definitely a dessert beer. Alcohol well hidden. Hell, have this beer FOR dessert.

M: Just a think sweetness that coats your mouth and leaves a great aftertaste.

D: It's quite scary how after a few sips you think you are drinking chocolate milk and then you get a tingle from 11% ABV after a while and then you realized. Whoa. Delicious.

O: A great, delicious beer to enjoy as a dessert or while relaxing with company.

choklat $7.99 for a 650 mL bottle. Dated 11/18/11 on bottom front of the bottle in green. Poured into a Southern Tier tulip.

a- pours a dark coffee color with a tan head that quickly dissipates into a ring leaving a trace of a thin film on top. thin lacing around the walls of the glass.

s- vanilla extract and chocolate, hints of lactose and brown sugar and coffee. basically smells like deliciousness.

t- very much like it smells: like slightly alcoholic milk chocolate. there's a dark chocolate bitterness, maybe from a bit of hops. sweet and delicious all around.

m- good level carbonation, silky and creamy. it's medium body, and though i expected a thicker beer, i'm glad it's not. i can hardly taste the 11% alcohol.

o- i'm just gonna go ahead and say it again: this is an overall delicious beer. i wish ST's creme brulee was this balanced. this takes the cake (no pun intended) for best desert beer i've tried.

Poured from a bomber into a whiskey sifter.

A- Pours a very Dark brown that is almost black. Has a small dark tan head that dissipates right away after the beer is poured. All that is left afterwords is a thin remaining ring around the edges of the glass.

S- The aroma is very sweet and rich, smelling incredibly strongly of chocolate. The aroma is very malty and sugary. There are notes of milk as well giving it a very milk chocolate smell. This beer smiles quite a bit like candy/ hot chocolate made with sweet whole milk.

T- The taste is just like biting into a chocolate bar. It is very sweet and malty with a semi-sweet bitter finish. There are notes of sweet barley, cocoa nibs, vanilla and butterscotch. There is also a slight caramel-ness to this beer.

M- Very smooth with light to medium carbonation. This is a thick beer that coats the back of your tongue every time you sip it.

O- An incredibly sweet delicious beer. Definitely not something I would drink just sitting around the house. This beer would be great with dessert or as an after dinner treat all in itself. A very good beer if you want to be a little more creative when getting a gift for that special someone who loves chocolate. Pure chocolate in beer form. This is easily the best chocolate beer I have ever had. If you love chocolate this beer is a must have.

A- Super oily, inky black pour with a thin dark tan ring. Lacing is gobs of sticky.

S- Super strong dark bakers chocolate, vanilla and molasses.

T- Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. It is literally alcoholic chocolate syrup. There is vanilla and molasses with a touch of brown sugar.

M- Medium to full bodied, creamy and low carbonation. Super sticky on the lips.

O- literally a box of chocolates in a bottle. Very good rich, sweet slow sipper.

No date on bottle.

Appearance: Pitch black like any other imperial stout. Looks good.

Smell: Insane chocolate smell as I open the bottle before I even pour it into the pint glass. Smells like straight up Hershey's chocolate syrup with a touch of alcohol.

Taste - Like chocolate milk with a touch of alcohol. Super chocolate, slight hop bitterness to balance. The only thing I don't like is the slight alcohol taste (but I'm picky with this in any beer) but it's barely there.

Mouthfeel: Creamy

Overall: One of my favorite imperial stouts and in my top 10 beers.

I tried this beer at home served from the bottle into a sampling glass.

A- a dark "chocolate" brown with a little head and little lacing.

S- It smelt like a chocolate chip cookie with some very mild vanilla and dark chocolate.

T- The beer was bitter on the front and smooth chocolate on the back. It was like drinking a chocolate milk shake.

M- This beer was thick with a slight tingle; smooth like eating a Godiva chocolate.

O- this beer seemed more like a drinking a chocolate shake then drinking a imperial stout. Does not discount from the beer, this was very unique and I would buy this again.
