Love this beer. Had it on tap for the first time a few years ago and was blown away. Was thrilled when I found it at a beer warehouse in 22oz bottles. Even though it is $9 a bottle, it is well worth the price.
Appearance-dark like coffee, as one would expect from a stout. Would have liked to have seen a thicker head on this beer when poured into my glass. Very thin head, even after a hard pour.
Smell-vanilla and coffee-would love to have a candle in my office that smells like this beer!
Taste-very impressed that this beer tastes just like it smells-a perfect mix of coffee, sweet vanilla, and a hint of caramel. Finishes with an eversoslight taste of alcohol. Must be careful with this beer as it's hard to tell it is 9.5%.
Mouth- good thickness, not syrupy like some sweet stouts.
Overall-an outstanding beer to enjoy with friends after a meal or an evening out. Definitely a dessert beer, don't see this pairing well with meat and potatoes-would go well with cheesecake, chocolate or doughnuts. I recommend giving this a try.

2013 - On tap. Part of a flight which included So. Tier Creme Brulee, Java Head, Imperial OAT & Founders Breakfast Stout.
Uber flavors here. Doubt there's any vanilla left in Madagascar after they made this. Chocolate, some coffee & just enough sweet to hit the spot. Not just for the freak effect, this is an excercise in what can be done. Well crafted and well dangerous at 9.6%.
12/20/11 After tasting this from a bottle some time ago (Thanks, Steve) I was so glad to see it untethered. This is one of those rewards for those who venture beyond their comfort zone.
Captured in my glass are a classic, though light stout with high caramel and vanilla notes. Nothing slaps your face except the uniqueness and, as Martha Stewart used to say, 'that's a good thing'.
