Oh wow! Got to have some of this on tap at Kickbacks Gastropub in Jacksonville. I am a huge fan of Southern Tier and this is a beer that I have been looking forward to trying since they first brewed it.

The beer was served in a 6oz snifter. the color is completely black with a half inch head that that left a beautiful lacing in the glass.

I pick up vanilla, creme, and butterscotch. Very, very sweet.

The taste is similar to the smell, though it's not as sweet as I expected judging by the smell. I get the same notes as on the nose with some toasted marshmallow and burnt sugar on the finish. I don't get any booze, which is scary for a beer that's nearly 10%.

Overall, I this is a great take on an imperial stout. Very creamy and sweet. Extremely drinkable. Well done, Southern Tier. Well done.

pours dark brown almost black, very small khaki head with minimal retention

smell is great i think, very sweet (reminds me of ice cream) vanilla and burnt sugar.

best way i can describe the taste would be like a very very sweet vanilla cream soda

high carbonaton, light bodied leaving a watery mouth

overall it's enjoyable. expected it to be sweet but was even sweet than expect. no way i could have drank alot of it.

A: Black, aggressive pour achieves no head at all.

S: Eggnog, vanilla, sugar and a little bit of booze.

T: Sugar, vanilla and coffee, way to sweet, bad aftertaste.

M: Milkshake, cloying, sticky.

O: This beer was way to rich and sweet, drain poured the last 6oz or so. The pure sweetness gave me a headache at times. Would not buy again.

Finally cracking this one open. Been staring at me awhile.

Appearance- Black. Ok, maybe just really, really dark brown. Whatever. It's got about a quarter inch of tan head.

Smell- Lots of stuff going on. Roasty, chocolaty, some vanilla. Almost nutty. Toffee and burnt sugar.

Taste- Sweetness. Just sweet as all hell. Toffee. Sugar, candy. Werther's Originals, or possibly french toast. Almost a sweet maple. A little roast? Look, it's all glazed sugar.

Mouthfeel- Surprisingly light carbonation, not too heavy.

Overall- It's too damned sweet. Just unreal. But it's also very interesting and original.

A for effort. Not so much for execution. I like some of these Blackwater beers, but this one is too damned sweet.
