A- Pours an opaque black in color. Thick and gurgling out of the bottle into the glass, a small to medium sized chocolatey brown head forms and retains very well. Lacing is also very good.

S- Borderline sickeningly sweet, this one is vanilla milkshake through and through. Very, very slight hint of chocolate flavors pierce the vanilla sweetness, but they are also very, very sweet in nature.

T- Not quite as sweet as the scent, but still tremendously sweet right off the bat. First and foremostly vanilla sweetness; with a slight hint of dark malts mixed in. Moves toward a milky sweetness that is also still accompanied by vanilla flavors. The end has more dark malts than the rest of the drink, as they linger somewhat after the sip, but vanilla sweetness also lingers.

M- Thick with a fair amount of carbonation. Between the alcohol and the over-the-top vanilla sweetness, this one is hard to drink much of with any speed at all. Still, it's creamy and feels good across the palate.

Overall, people told me this was sickeningly sweet, and it' not as bad as I anticipated in the sweetness category, but it's close. The sweetness is an interesting flavor, but maybe a little too much.

This is something of a white whale among the Australian beer community, and I'd managed to go some time without trying it—I finally managed it at the Local Taphouse in Sydney during Sydney Craft Beer Week 2013. Served on nitro through a sparkler.

Pours a stupid, thick black-brown colour but with definite clarity noticeable when held to the light—I can see red right through it. Head is stupidly creamy off the nitro. Pale beige, fine and rich leaving ridiculous lace. It's a ridiculously creamy looking beer, there's no denying that.

And did someone mention ridiculous? The nose is extreme. Intense vanilla, burnt sugar crème brûlée all over. It's so creamy and thick that it's silly. Some sultanas come through as well, perhaps with a slight hint of spice like ginger. But mostly it's just about pretending to be crème brûlée, which it does exceptionally well. It's insane. You're an idiot, beer.

Once this translates into flavour though, it's too much—too sweet. So much creamy, thick vanilla ridiculousness. It curdles with the booze (which is definitely noticeable), giving an offputting character of Irish cream. Stacks of vanilla toffee without much to counter it. It's thick, smooth and creamy and too much. I loved those flavours on the nose, but here, I admit I'm struggling with it.

Feel is lovely in its way, were it not for the bombastic quagmire of flavours that it supports.

Overall, it's too sweet, without darkness or... anything, to balance it. It makes me feel bloated and a little bit nauseated drinking so much of it. It does a great job of mimicking a brûlée, but I don't think I'd want to puree such a dessert and quaff it. Such thickness and sweetness—I found it difficult to finish despite its many fine attributes.

A: Like root beer; dark, with light permeating a good amount of the edges, and pretty clear. Not much carbonation apparent. Even hard pours only produce a 1-finger fading head, no significant lacing.

S: My dad- "Wow, I can smell it!" Very true, dad. Seconds after opening just the bottle I detected its sweet caramel, vanilla, and cream esters. Sweet all around, some sassafras, no real beer notes noticeable. Great if you want pungent creme brulee, bad if you want balanced beer. My score tells you which side I'm on.

T: Just what you asked for. Very sweet butterscotch, cream, vanilla, shortcake, sassafras, and finally some roasted malt bringing up the rear. Alcohol is hidden well. Very subtle sweet fruits in the background as well. Extremely palatable, although I do have an exceptional palate for sweetness. Restaurants could get away with serving this as their creme brulee desert. Finish is medium-long, and brought on again every time I salivate.

M: Just great. Wouldn't call it silky, but smooth with a lively carbonation. Fills my mouth beautifully.

O: (I know this beer will be divisive, so my 'overall' will follow suit): It's fantastic, and if you don't think so then you are an idiot for either 1) picking it up without reading the bottle's description and expecting something other than a sweet creamy toffee vanilla liquid desert, or 2) don't like creme brulee, so why did you pick it up in the first place? I too, however, am an idiot for not keeping a few bombers of these around, ready for when that hankering calls again (and I know it will).
