Lots of vanilla and fairly sweet. The name fits, definitely good for dessert.

I was shocked how much this reminded me of artificial sugar and fake vanilla. This was the first large format that I didn't continue past half a glass.

Smell is of all caramel and delicious. The taste gives more roastiness just like a creme brulee. This stout is just as advertised. A nice dessert.

This beer is amazing! A friend bought it on a whim since he enjoyed creme brulee creamer. I was skeptical until I smelled it--you'd swear it was a cup of dessert! Nicely sweet, awesome roast, not boozy. This is a "panty dropper".

Very smooth with a touch of sweetness, even used a bottle for a batch of ribs on did in the crock pot that gave the ribs a nice sweet note to them that even carried through sometime in the smoker

Murky dark Tootsie Roll brown with khaki head; toffee and caramel candy/sugar beet notes; toffee and caramel candy flavors; mouthfeel is medium with big chewy candy tongue coating; rich sweet malt, toffee and caramel - like drinking liquid creme brûlée dessert.

Very good beer. Was pleasantly surprised by the vanilla influence. Very sweet at first, but the slight bitterness really mellows it out. Very nice after dinner drink. Nice warm feeling from the alcohol, but it is masked very well. Nice change of pass.

(I didn't use to be fan of stouts. But the stuff brewery's are doing with them nowadays is changing that.)

Wow. The label doe not lie... not one bit. This is dessert in a glass. It's a beautifully dark stout with a nice frothy tan head that laces a bit at the beginning. The aroma? Well, creme brulee almost says it all. It smells just like the sweet vanilla/custard/caramelized goodness you'd order as a desert. The vanilla bean really comes across in the nose. The flavor's are like nose but more hidden behind huge sweetness. It would be too sweet if not for a nice touch of bitterness and some mild alcohol heat. The full bodied mouth feel is quite surprising at first because of the thickness, but it's very creamy and smooth. Glad I bought this. At 9.5% ABV it gets even better as it goes...

WOW! Big beer! Delicious sweet, vanilla fresh brewed coffee aroma and black pour with virtually no head. Super rich & sweet and unfortunately I'm burdened with the task of finishing this big bottle of black power. Would be better in a standard strength ABV offering.

Been waiting for this to come out for months. I've been warned that it was too sweet but it's not. Smells wonderful, pours a beautiful dark color and tastes even better.

This beer is not as good as it smells. Nor does it have the best mouthfeel in the world. But damned it it doesn't smell good!

Appearance: Dark, black as night not as lot of head, but it does have a lingering amount that sticks to the side of the glass.

Smell: About the best smelling beer I have ever found. Lot of creme brulee and vanilla in the aroma. No doubt! This is one of the better smelling beers you will ever run across. But it really doesn't live up to the aroma.

Taste: Some vanilla is present but it does not have the viscosity that you expect from the nose. This is by no means a bad tasting beer but it doesn't do what you would expect from the nose.

Overall: Solid beer but there are better offerings out there. Not a bad beer by any stretch but it it is not as good as the aroma would lead you to believe it is.

Creamy and sweet, this beer isn't for everyone. One would have to rank it in its own category. For what it is - a delicious stout that actually tastes like Creme Brule - its very close to perfect.

Tried earlier tonight and LOVED it! Very rich and sweet, but still paired with a nice carbonation. It has a unique vanilla flavor, not the normal vanilla you'd find in a porter or other beers, but better.

I really enjoyed this. Thinking of getting a growler fill-up of this soon.

Frankly sweet, and a huge hit of vanilla on the nose that you can smell from several feet away, this is a unique beer.

Just a shade the wrong way, and this beer could have been a disaster; but Southern Tier pulled it off, and this is really good, though I'm sure it's not for everyone.

Black color, not a ton of head.

Moderately rich mouthfeel, not overly thick.

Definitely sweet, but not cloying like (say) certain barleywines.

Beautiful bitterness on the finish, mixes with the sweetness in a unique and awesome way.

Seems like you could add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and have a fine dessert.

Lots of fans of this beer... just found out that I am not one. Looks great, with a pitch black body and ring of tan head. Served good and cold, as suggested. Nose was exactly like a Werthers' Original candy (which is OK by me). Could barely get past the first sip... hyper-sweet, astringest, horrible. Mouthfeel was basically a guess... can't do it. Wife thinks it is fine. If it wasn't for her, there goes an 8.99 drain pour. Bottom of the barrel for me. I am a stout guy, and this hit way off the mark for me.

Liquified cookie dough is the best way to describe this beer. Wifey likes it so easy to split a bomber. Thanks to the traders who helped me get both '13 and '14 editions.
