It pours quite clear, upwardly gradient light amber to rusty orange. Two fingers of frothy light beige head settle to a bubbly quilt. Frescoes of lacing dapple the inside of the glass.
In the aroma, caramel malt boasts sweet berries, while the juicy hops deliver mandarin orange, pine, rose attar, and spice. A splinter of toasty oak joins toffee and a stripe of alcohol.
Upon sipping, dense malt drapes caramel, currants, and a marked Jolly Rancher sweetness. Hops hint first with crisp grapefruit, orange, and a floral note, but then build into a crest of spicy bitterness. The alcohol is warm but a willing partner. Then the malt re-surges, laying more caramel, light molasses, plum, and a vestigial oak dusting. The finish moves from grainy sweet to dusty dry and bitter at a rapid pace. It's Unearthly with an earthy governor.
Full bodied, it's sticky and syrupy, with an oily resinous flow in its dry wake.
I love Unearthly for what it is, but the understated woodiness and oak aging smooth some of the raw edges I appreciate in the original. It's very good, but the IBU attack here is more of a flurry of love taps. Still, as a high ABV yet smooth hop-demon, it drinks easily. That said, make mine de-oaked next time.

Holy oak taste, Batman!
Forget aged in oak. This tastes like I'm just drinking right out of the barrel. Oak, brown, tannins. That's what this beer tastes like. Also some hops and malt... but mostly just oak.
No real good aromas to speak of.
What am I drinking? Sigh. Drinkable and unique, but wouldn't have it again
