Maine

22 oz bottle poured into goblet. Southern Tier is brand new to Maine and this is my first offering from them.

A: Pours a silky black/dark-brown with soft ruby highlights. Head is 2 fingers, sandy-brown, complex and full; dissipates to a light film and leaves some beautiful lacing on the glass.

S: Hops are upfront (chinook, cascade, willamette, centenial) and definitely form the backbone of the smell. Malts (2-row pale, debittered black malt) are nicely subdued. I also get hints of fresh cream at the back of the nose. Smells clean and delicious.

T: Caramel, refreshing hops and alcohol dominate the flavor. Aftertaste is quite piney from the hops, but in a really functional and cleansing way, as it removes the whiskey notes from your palate. Each sip tastes better than the last. Does this beer have MSG in it?

M: Mouthfeel is thinner than you'd think by looking at this brew, but remember that the black malts are more for color than anything. This is a DIPA all the way, and it drinks like one. Thin, but resiny. Creamy yet dry. Perfectly embodies the style.

D: While Iniquity does a nice job of hiding her alcohol content (9%), it's tough to deny that you feel every glass that you knock back. That said, the drinkability of this beer is exceptional. So many beers just get "old" to me after a couple of glasses; not this.

One of my highest recommendations, and I can't wait to taste the other ST labels. I'm very impressed, to say the least.

Bomber poured into a stout glass.

The beer pours midnight black with a thick khaki colored head. Good lacing.

I get coffee and espresso, vanilla, and dark fruits on the nose. Almost smells similar to a belgian quad with the dark fruit.

Taste is good. Mild carbonation and vanilla at first. That mellows into a dark fruit taste that continues on the finish. Has a good maltiness as well.

Thick feeling in the mouth. Kind of creamy.

Overall a very good beer. I wasn't expecting the dark fruit, but I liked it.

Poured from bottle into DFH signature glass.

Aroma is dry and roasty. Some raisin and a little booze.

Taste is similar. It is not a porter, not a stout, but similar. The mouthfeel is great with a clean aftertaste that is slightly dry but flavorful. Tastes a couple abv less than it is at 9%.

Overall another winner from ST. Will definitely be getting again.
