Grabbed this one at American Craft in Brookline - what an incredibly unique beer in my opinion...
Pours pitch black, with a nice firm head that lingers nicely before settling in to small patching. This beer is as dark as they come. The nose is the most robust I have ever experienced, its pure dark chocolate, and is just an incredible thing to sense. This is like sitting down with a mug of hot cocoa on a cold day - a great beer for winter in this regard.
Its hard to follow a nose like that, but this beer makes a good, if not as enjoyable effort. Far more coffee in the taste then the nose, and a little less chocolate than I would have expected. A bit of alcohol burns on the end of the drink, and there is light carbonation that lingers under the medium/heavy body. This is the sort of drink you should enjoy with cheese or dessert, but it will hit you hard at anytime - you definitely feel the 11% ABV.
Serving type: on-tap
