Dark brown, almost black in color. Faint ruby hues at the bottom of the glass. Weak tan head forms a ring around the glass and a film patch floating on the liquid.
Sweet candy-like aroma. Vanilla and alcohol spice. Hard to describe. So Complex.
Flavor is insane! Starts with a roasted flavor of mild coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of burnt toast. Not as much roasted character as other double stouts yet still assertive. Mid-drink the sweetness kicks in with a sugar cane and prune juice quality. Vanilla spice. Hops take a back seat with a subtle herbal bitterness. Alcohol is aggressive, dries the mouth and warms the chest. Finishes dry with plenty of lingering flavor. Underlying and intricate flavors surface as it warms.
Viscous brew with limited carbonation. Leaves a heavy texture that almost feels unfinished.
Pretty good brew. Very complex. Like no other beer I have ever tried. Better as it warms.
