Pours a dark orange color that turns black in the glass, very light for an imperial stout. The beer is carbonated poorly, not much body or activity going on here either, reasonable given the 11%.
Smells of spiced milk chocolate with coffee notes and American hops to finish things off. Absolutely intoxicating aroma.
Spiced chocolate and coffee blend flawlessly into a single unified flavor that I’ve had before, but can’t place. Unlike other coffee and chocolate beers where one flavor dominates the other or they come off as two completely separate flavors, this has managed to perfectly mingle the flavors together. A strong presence of American hops here really adds another layer of flavor and complexity.
The mouth here really hurts this beer. This beer drinks rather like an IPA far more than an imperial stout. The mouth lacks carbonation which just keeps this one from being even remotely decent.
Great flavor, but the lack of body here just is leaving me amazingly under whelmed.
