Pours pitch black into my stemmed Ayiger tulip-style glass - no light penetrates at al. Big, blossoming, settled attractive 2" loose khaki head. I hold my ear up to it and can hear a muffled crackling of bubbles.
An utmost chocolaty nose to say the least. Smells exactly like a freshly blended chocolate malt - made with hot fudge instead of chocolate syrup. Hi-grade vanilla bean. Nestle Quick powder. This thing is all about layers and variants of chocolate.
The flavors automatically take a swing into the bitter coffee realm right away. I can now detect a coffee element I was hoping for in the nose. Bitterness nicely offsets the still very prevalent chocolate presence, which is quite harmonious now. An slight alcohol 'edge' is detected, but more so in the warmth and not taste. The handshake is becoming firmer. Still very friendly, but a bit firmer nonetheless. The chocolate is tamed now, while the dark cocoa powder and coffee components are lifted as this ale warms a bit.
Mouthfeel is full, thick, oily and slick. The carbonation is minimal, but still fine and present. The finish is sweet, bitter, lush and warming.
Drinkability is good. I'l be nice and cozy once this bomber is consumed, but that will be enough for me.
Overall a very remarkably indulgent stout. A was happy to taste bitter, charred flavors because the sweet smells had me fretting this would be a cloying glob of an ale - but it's not. Everything is just so luxuriously over-the-top. A great beer to share with a couple friends to break up a session of IPAs maybe? Definitely a dessert beer, better enjoyed fireside with a comfy flannel robe and fuzzy slipper. Thanks for spoiling me ST!

Pitch black pour with a brown one-finger head. Really great chocolate and marshmallow aroma. Initial taste has a really strong dark chocolate and cocoa flavor that is big and bold. Full body that drinks relatively easy. Coffee flavor is very subdued and there’s just a slight bitterness around mid taste. Finishes sweet with a really nice lingering chocolate flavor…almost list a good chocolate ice cream.
