Bomber bottle poured into a Gulden Draak tulip glass.
Appearance- Black with a 2 finger head that slowly dissipates into a half finger or so with some alcohol legs and light lacing.
Smell- Lots of chocolate with some sour hop and boozy notes.
Taste- Follows the nose with lots of bakers chocolate and lots of hop balance.
Mouthfeel- Silky but still highly carbonated for a stout.
Overall- Good well balanced stout. Great dessert beer that even works well with chocolate and chocolate flavored desserts.

22 oz bottle shared with my girlfriend, poured into two brand new snifters! (One of them says “Friends and Lovers / Prom ‘87”! Love it.)
A – pretty dark, semi-carbonated head that goes down pretty quickly but hugs the sides of the glass the whole time, just like a good stout should. Held up to the light, the brew starts light brown at the top and fades into complete blackness.
S – smelled it both in the bottle and poured out. Dear god, so much chocolate. In the bottle, it’s literally all I smell, but, poured out, I smell the alcohol too. Bracing myself for the 11.2% claimed on the bottle.
T – this is where this beer really, really shines. The chocolate isn’t quite as prevalent in the taste, but it’s definitely present. It’s also quite a bit sweeter than other chocolate stouts, including FBS. I taste only a hint of coffee, and the alcohol I detected in the snifter smell plays a role, but not an 11.2% role. It’s strong, but, as my girlfriend put it, it’s “ridiculously smooth.”
M – very good. The sweetness hugs the sides of the mouth; there’s hardly any carbonation. The alcohol starts pretty strong, but finishes subdued and perfectly balanced. Superb.
O – wonderful beer. I’m so glad I found something that I can get year round. I can’t wait to try Choklat, although Mokah is apparently a mix between Choklat and Jahva, so I don’t know how it could be better. Well done, Southern Tier.
11/24/2012 EDIT: I should have checked this originally, but the bottle I reviewed was actually from 2011. I had a fresh bottle and asked myself why it wasn't nearly as good; dug out the old bottle and found out why.
