On tap at COle's A pumkin beer, orange with white Caesar head, overshadowed by some hops and carbonation. A tad below average mouthfeel. a.b.v. right there. Didn't quite work out, but drinkable. Nt up to the standard of the first tow parts of this anniversary trio.

On-tap at Cole's in Buffalo.

A darkish, swampy, brown-sugar infused colour that, unexpectedly, will turn up some transparency when held into the light. It looks more filling than pretty, that's for sure. Its head, in fine standing, is bleached white with big fuzzy mold-like clumps.

This limited release is a 50/50 blend of Southern Tier IPA and Southern Tier Pumpking - before it's spiced - so it's no wonder I'm not smelling cinnamon or nutmeg or any other pumpkin-pie spicing and instead smell something exactly (or nearly exactly) like their IPA. In other words: hoppy. Pink grapefruit, bubble gum, vinous piny lupullin.

The flavour is also uncannily like their IPA, the pre-spiced Pumpking blend lending little more than some darker, nuttier and slightly bolder malty notes. (With all the spicing I suppose it's not surprising to learn that Pumpking's base is rather plain.) The bulk of the taste is comprised of chewy, honey-laced biscuits and underlying candied citrus.

This blend is rather redundant (if necessary) but it is up to this brewery's usual high standard of drinkability. It is far and away a sessionable offering - mild but sufficiently hoppy, indistinct but flavorful and highly quaffable - that makes a great pint (or several).

Southern Tier IPA is great. Southern Tier Pumpking is great. A blend of the two does not make a doubly great beer. Still, it is something I could sit there and drink all day. Which, for the record, is something I've been known to do every so often at Buffalo's best beer bar. And I plan to keep on doing it. Cheers to Mike and Cole's and here's to 75 more!

On tap at Cole's, described as a blend of ST IPA and unspiced Pumpking. Pumpkin IPA!!

Pours a clear medium amber/orange, thick white head forms, settles to a thick ring, good chunks of lace stick on the glass. Smell is neat, floral and grapefruit, some pine, caramel, lightly gourdy, pumpkin/graham cracker comes through a bit, sugary middle, crystal malts, bit of alcohol, pretty hoppy. Taste is nice, lots of floral and grapefruit hoppiness, caramelized pumpkin, biscuits, graham cracker, floral, really refined and balanced. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Really neat mix, a like this one.
