Poured from a one month old bottle, chilled but not cold. Poured a rich, complex brown. Nice, deep tan head with good retention and moderate lacing.

Smell is very nice. Hoppy, grainy, malty, and a hint of alcohol.

Exceptiotional taste. Earthy, malt, smoke, and woody flavors up front. Excellent hoppy overtones throughout. Faintly sharp alcohol presence. Ends in a smoked rye flavor.

Very good mouthfeel. Thick, rich and lightly carbonated leaving a light coating on the mouth.

The consumate IPA. For anyone who is a fan of IPA as I am, it will be very tough to match. The flavors, boldness, and look are definition for the genre.

A: This poured a hazy light gold with moderate white head.
S: It smelled like orange and citrus hops, with some sweet light caramel and a little bready yeast.
T: It tasted like bitter citrus hops with sweet honey and light caramel, and a bit of bread yeast. It had a clean and bitter aftertaste.
M: It was slightly thick with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was a nice IPA with a good scent and taste and body. It had a smooth finish, so it was easy to drink. But nothing really made this beer unique or special. Enjoyable but forgettable.

12oz bottle served in a snifter.

pours a clear, bright golden yellow with a short-lived finger of white head that does yield some nice lacing.

nose is not as aromatic as i remember but dominated by citric hoppiness with some floral/grassy qualities to it, bready malts. something else, too, that i can't quite put my finger on, like... cardboard...? i don't know, weird. no bottled date so i can't be sure how fresh this one is - obviously a key component in an IPA/DIPA. taste is good, with most of the hop characters pulling through with an added note of pine. definite malty presence. again though, not quite as flavorful and enjoyable as i recall when last i had it (last summer).

medium bodied, medium carbed mouthfeel with high drinkability. a very solid DIPA and a lot of bang for the buck, though i'm questioning the age here. will be on the lookout to obtain a certified fresh serving and compare - as previously mentioned i definitely remember this being better.
