Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: aerozeppl on 06-18-2010

This beer may have a cheeky name, but don’t be fooled; it is modeled after fine European pilsners to be light and crisp. Aromatic Noble hop varieties, 2-row malted barley and European style pilsner malt contribute to this pale beer’s smooth character.

Poured into a nonic pint glass on 3/11/13

DOP 12/31/12 printed on the bottle

Clear, golden yellow color. Bone white head about 1/2 inch tall. Thin layer of retention and uneven protrusions of lace.

The aroma isn't too shabby: noble hop grass and hay in abundance. The pilsner malt is very clean with a crisp graininess. The flavor is similarly shy on malts and the hops are ramped up. Grassy, herbal hops rake the taste buds with a bit too high of a bitterness for the style. Cereal grains as it warms. The finish has an unpleasant coating quality. Sharp, zesty feel with ample carbonation.

Eh, this is drinkable but hardly impressive or worth a repeat attempt.

Served in a pint glass for $3 during happy hour. Sampled 2/15/12.

A: Arrives with no head or film, just a spare collar. The body is barely pale yellow - like one step above water - and magnifyingly clear. Very still on the inside. No chance of lacing. The clarity alone saves this beer from the lowest score possible.

S: Smells of generic grain and maybe even some rice or corn (though the latter is doubtful). Grassy hops, neutral yeast and a small lager-like fruit character that is mild.

T: Exactly the same as the nose.

M: Light, crisp & snappy. The beer glides across the tongue with a nice bite at the end and a great level of effervescence throughout. Refreshing. Light but substantial enough. The mouthfeel is the only thing that makes the ABV believable. I would have guessed 4%.

O: Not Southern Tier's most inspired offering. I hate the term lawnmower beer, but if I had to put that name tag on a craft beer, this one fits well enough. Which reminds me of this beer's offensive name! Really? A "z" in Pils? You're better than that, Southern Tier.

Southern Tier Eurotrash Pilz is a super clear, pale golden lager with a white head that quickly fades to a bubbly film. There's not much aroma. It smells a little sweet, grainy and maybe lemony. It's very light bodied and pretty smooth with a dry finish. It tastes a little sweet up front, then a sort of chemical taste comes in with a little bitterness toward the finish. Yeah, I think this was appropriately named. There's not much going on here. I find myself drinking it faster to wash the aftertaste out of my mouth.

A: Brilliant clarity on a golden-maize color shows a gentle whisper of effervesce. The head is oatmeal in color, frothy and patchy and quick to dissipate leaving no window lacing. Expected a bit more pop carbonation wise and head retention.

S: Green flowers on the nose, soft hay, very low grainiess, could of used a better and cleaner grain character and lacked the spicy hops of a good Czech pils.

T: A bit of moldy grain character, not very clean or crisp at all. Maybe that’s why they call it a euro-trash. Dry hay with a bit of funky mildewy hop finish and aftertaste.

M: Flat carbonation, but does have some substance body wise, still meh, lacks crispness.

O: Overall not very tasty, a bit of funky moldy hops, low carbonation and unclean malt profile leaves much to be desired. A shame because I usually like a lot of southern tiers beers, just goes to show you the real craftmenship is in brewing the lighter bodied beers where flaws cannot hide. Blah not even close.

it pours a very clear very golden. the head went away as fast as it came. the smell is that of a rather cheap lager such as bud. it starts with the crisp punch of noble hops but quickly fleets to a rather dissappointing metalic taste. the mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing. i was was expecting more out of this one.

Poured from 12oz bottle to a goblet glass

Pours a straw yellow with a 1 1/2 finger head. Smells of egg yolk, boiled corn water, buttery malts and faint hops. Extremely grainy on the taste, all corn water, this is not what i expected at all. Light in body and feel. Overall, not much to say about this beer. It tastes like a Budwieser with a little more of a buttery feel. Save your cash and buy a case of Genny for the same price of a 6'r of this, this beer was terrible from start to finish.
