Style: Czech Pilsener

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer may have a cheeky name, but don’t be fooled; it is modeled after fine European pilsners to be light and crisp. Aromatic Noble hop varieties, 2-row malted barley and European style pilsner malt contribute to this pale beer’s smooth character.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance –Pours a deeper yellow- golden colored brew with a one half finger pure white head. The head fades rather slowly, leaving a lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – A musty and grainy aroma create the base of the brew. Mixed with these smells are a lighter grassy and herbal smell as well as a little bit of a papery aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready and slightly grainy flavor with hints of a caramel sweetness. As the taste advances the sweetness fades more, with a slightly herbal and grassy hop flavor coming to the tongue. The hop flavors remain relatively light, but persist to the end of the taste, where the grassy flavors then grow a bit stronger, leaving a lightly bittered and malty flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –For a 5.2% abv. pilz ,the body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is rather average. The thickness takes away from the refreshing nature ever so slightly (very slightly), but accentuates the more herbal and grassy hop flavors of the brew. Overall it is a pretty decent feel.

Overall – A decently easy drinking and refreshing brew. Nothing too flavorful or special, but good for what it is meant for; a somewhat crisper, easy drinking, and refreshing brew to drink while sitting and conversing with friends.

A- This might be the worst pour I have ever seen. Poured into a pint glass with a clear, pale golden body. A miniscule white head forms for a few seconds but the bubbles are big like tonic water and it dies out almost immediately. No ring, no head just a tiny little cloud of white in the middle. I would easily mistake this for sparkling wine if I didn't know. Let's not even discuss lacing.

S- Light cracker malt sweetness, yeast/bread notes and some hops. Hops are somewhat grassy and herbal. Not hugely aromatic.

T- Starts with some herbal, grassy and floral hops. Rounded out with light caramel malt, grains, biscuit and yeast bread hints.

MF- Nice creamy light body with a nice smooth, moderate carbonation level. Finishes just a bit bitter.

Started off like a wet fart but picked it up somewhat with the flavor and feel. Not bad but nothing above average.

In a pilsner glass the beer was a light gold color with a tiny white head. There was a smidge of lace.

A rather nondescript aroma. Hints of grass, pepper, and sweet malt. Nice, but not great.

Taste similar to aroma. Sweet biscuit and a hint of grassy hops. Again, nice but not great.

The beer was crisp and refreshing, and was easy to drink.

This beer proves that a good pils can look like what BMC claims to be without lacking flavor or resorting to inferior ingredients. It looks, for all intents and purposes, what BMC advertises in commercials and on packaging. It's pale gold, completely clear and bubbly. A pillow of pure white head is fluffy and sits almost 2 fingers tall initially. Lacing is left in tight webbing, then patching, then spotting.
Sulfuric Saaz hops are right up front in the nose, and it's clear this isn't a weak BMC. Hops are showcased here but balanced by a doughy malt. A bit of light sweetness with floral notes to it rounds it out some.
There's a bit of grains that avoids the impression of cereal character before hops smack the palate. It provides a biting spiciness as well before some bready malts come in to soften it up. This is certainly on the hoppy side for a pils, and I feel the malts and a touch of light sweetness keep it from going abrasive in the finish, which it seems it might otherwise.
It's as light as I'd expect, though a far cry from the thin feel of some efforts, pretty well verging into medium. It's got a constant crispness as well as carbonation, and it's clean.

Solid golden color with a thin head with low retention.
Aroma of grassy hops and bready malt. Just a hint of lemon.
Sweet flavor of malt with herbal and floral hops, green apples at finish. Fast dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with medium carbonation.
This beer is all right, no thrills as one would normally expect for the style and Eurotrash is no exception.

A: Pours a clear, pale yellow with a thin white head that dissipates very quickly.

S: Aromas of grain, minerals, rosewater, herbs, grass, honey, and lemon are present on the nose.

T: Notes of minerals, lemon, herbs, grass, grain, honey, and rosewater wash across the palate. The finish is clipped with lemon, herb, grass, and mineral notes.

M: Medium-to-full in body, waxy, and a bit stickier than expected. Carbonation is very prickly. As beers of this type go, this is far from easy to drink. Unexpectedly filling and bloating for the style.

O: This beer has done little to convince me that American craft brewers handle European lagers well. Compared to many of the Czech classics, this lager is sorely lacking. Everything about it is just a little off. Although it is not bad really, the aromas and flavors displayed by this beer are too simple and too straight-forward and the carbonation is far too forceful. There is not a lot of depth, complexity, or subtlety here and the whole package is a bit too unrefined for my liking. Again, it is not really that bad, but it does seem a bit dumbed down compared to the beers it tries to emulate.

A-Clear Straw yellow, one finger head, some carbonation

S-Grainy, malt and some butter

T-A complete 180 from the nose when warm. Cold it follows the nose but as she warmed some spices, slight balanced bitterness with grassy and lemon notes.

M-Light in body, smooth with decent carbonation.

O-At first I was not pleased with this beer, but as it warmed more flavors came out and it became nicely balanced.

This beer pours a clear pale gold color. The head is a half an inch in height, and recedes quickly into minimal lacing. The aroma is vaguely malty with very faint bread and caramel, but it is mostly air. The taste is a lot fuller than the aroma. There is a nice balance of bready malt with and spicy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a smooth texture. Overall, this is a decent beer, but there are better pilsensers out there.

Pours a clean pale yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, just like the name, just like a Euro pils. In the taste, a small Saaz hop and a clean standard pils taste. A small bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry and clean aftertaste. A clean European pils, nothing exciting, but clean and fresh.

12 oz bottle poured into a Kostritzer pilsner glass.

A: Pours a golden straw color typical of the style. The head is a one finger white shade. It fades quickly, nor does it leave much lacing on the glass.

S: I really like how hoppy this one is. Tons of zesty, grassy noble hops bombard my nose with only a modicum of malt sweetness coming through.

T: The flavor doesn't come across quite right; it seems to be heavy in both buttery and vegetal components. It has that green bell pepper quality I tend to dislike in some pilsners. Some sweetness builds on the midtaste which slightly wrecks the balance.

M: Not as crisp as I like in the style. It's properly light, but the hops don't really cleanse the sweetness particularly well.

O: Merely an average pilsner; the vegetal character really hurts it. Not bad, but there are much better lagers out there.

Pale, clear straw color with two fingers of head that had good retention before settling to a thick cap. Heavy, spotty lacing is left down the glass.

Aroma consists mostly of a bready, yeasty bread. A bit of a peppery note from the hops.

The flavor has a nice peppery hop flavor that compliments the semi-sweet malt. There is a bit of an astrigent finish that hurts the flavor a little.

Nice body and texture. Properly carbonated and easy to drink.

Nice pilsner but the flavor was just a little off so it fell well short of the great Czech pils.

Poured into a pils glass.

3.0 A: Clear light yellow color. Just one finger of frothy white head that fell quickly and left no lacing.

4.0 S: Biscuity and grainy malts. Super clean. Dank, floral hoppiness with grassiness right behind. Simple, yet seductive.

4.0 T: Grainy first, biscuity second. Soft bitterness, earthy and grassy hop flavor. Pilseners aren't the height of complexity, but this is a clean, tasty one.

4.0 M: Light body. Crisp and refreshing. My only complaint is that the carbonation is a bit too high.

4.0 D: Super clean and tasty. What more could you want in the style? This would be a good choice for a party.

Poured a crystal clear yellow with no visible body. The head was neatly thick with a fluffy build.

Aromas of grain, cereal malt sweetness and bready notes waft to the nos but a corny adjunct scent is present. I know that this has malt and hops but it's got a corn scent in the backdrop.

The taste is absent the adjunct and big on the grains and cereal malt flavor. Smooth, refreshing Pilsner qualities are there albeit lightly. Grain and bready tones are sewn in a easy to drink package.

It's difficult to review Pilsners as they are not overly complex and by nature don't get high scores. This is a quality addition to the genre just a taste weak.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Bottling date of 12/19/11.

Appearance: Pours a bright and very clear looking golden yellow with lots of rising bubbles and a solid two fingers of white head with good retention. Moderate lacing around the glass.

Smell: A light blend of pale caramel malts with some wheat grains. Has a nice grassy, somewhat herbal presence of Noble and Saaz hops giving that classic earthy Pilsner spice.

Taste: A nice bready, grainy taste of pale malts and grains up front that is followed by a earthy, grassy blend of Noble hops and Saaz. Hops give a nice little kick of bitterness and spice towards the finish. Pretty solid.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with a medium to heavy amount of carbonation. Very crisp and somewhat prickly. Very easy drinking.

Overall: A pretty solid take on the Classic Czech Pils.

Pale straw yellow color with a fleeting white head that settles as a bubbly ring. Slightly doughy pilsner malt sweetness in the nose along with a floral/herbal hoppiness and a flash of sulfur. Simple, light flavors...cereal grain, grass, and a spicy hop bitterness. Clean, light, crisp, and suck-down-able, but ultimately too watery and plain to bother drinking more than one.

Appearance - Yellow, clear with minimal head. Lots of carbonation through body.

Smell - Lots of strong noble hops coming through. Some malt as well.

Taste- Nice flavoring coming through the noble hops. Crisp finish. A slight off taste with metallic tinge.

Mouthfeel - Slightly watery and not as carbonated in the mouth as it is in the bottle.

Overall - A decent pilsner with plenty of flavor yet light for a hot day. Enjoy.

Southern Tier Eurotrash Pilz has a medium head, a somewhat hazy, slightly bubbly, yellow-gold appearance, and some thin, splotchy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, cracker, with some grassy hops. Taste is the same. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Southern Tier Eurotrash Pilz finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and dry. Overall, this is nice. I like it.

Poured from the bottle a light clear gold color with three fingers of white head.

Aroma of lemon, biscuit, floral hops and sweet malts.

The taste matched the aroma. Lemon, floral hops, biscuit and sweet malts. Bitter bite to the finish.

Lighter bodied and crisp with a sharp carbonation.

I enjoyed this Czech Pilsner from Southern Tier quite a bit. I'll definitely have more this summer.

12oz bottle served in a pilsner glass.

L - clear bright yellow color with a white head that thinned to a light layer leaving trails of lacing.

S - very European, a true pilsner aroma.

T - taste is also spot on for the style with bitterness left on the tongue and sweetness left on the lips.

F - light/medium bodied with a crisp, refreshing feel.

O - a good example of the style and a nice break in the winter months.

Had this on 2012-06-04 in Columbia, PA

A - Very clear yellow with a 1-finger white head that fades quickly and leaves little lacing.

S - Grassy, bready, herbal and light stone fruit. Volatiles fade quickly.

T - Honey-sweet pale malt, citrus, light stone fruit, grassy, herbal/metallic and some light hop bitterness come through at the end. Dries quickly leaving a citrus-tart and light bitter finish that sticks around awhile.

M - Light body and medium-high carbonation. Crisp and refreshing.

O - A pleasant but not earth-shattering pils. I much prefer Victory Prima Pils.

Poured into pint glass. Apperance is incredibly pale with a thin layer of white head which leaves decent lacing behind. The nose features grassy hops typical of a Pilsener with vague hints at skunk character. Sweet corn notes come through along with some grainy quality as well. The taste is absent of the hop character that I detected on the nose. Lots of malt character with a tinge of corn sweetness. Not a lot of flavor here. The mouthfeel is feather light with high carbonation. Overall, I am not a huge fan of this Pils. The nose is a bit off putting and the malt character is a little too sweet for the style.

Light golden straw color. Sudsy head with blanketed surface and decent lace.

Crispy golden lager malts with a slight yeast presence. Sweeter grassiness with thin Euro hop mossy aromas. Pale nose with that pilsner identity keeping it classy.

Half Czech Pils, half pale Euro lager. Hard to trace grassiness, sweet maltiness, dry finish with only mild bitterness. A little watery, needs spunkiness. Hops are muted in the middle, but come with minty pine linger in the tailend. Easy to manage in the beginning with a wet and thinned-out body, but finishes with some crackle and pop. Carbonation is a bit lower than standard fare.

Hardly anything extraordinary. A mundane pils that slights the style a bit. Drinks fine, but it's passable. 3.5

T: Follows the nose dead on. Pilsner malt, grass and lemon. Has a nice little hop bite in the finish.

M: Medium bodied, crisp, clean and semi-dry.

O: Not complex but very refreshing and easy drinking. Nicely balanced with a slight bitterness. A very nice Czech Pils!

Bottled: unk

Pours light yellow with a finger of fine, white foam and plenty of resonance. Pretty beer. Earthy hops with a slight, but subtle sweetness in the malts. Simply nose, nothing special. Flavor is bitter with a dry, crispy grain flavor. Body is thin, even for the style with reserved carb and a semi dry finish. Overall, this would be an average pilsner IMO, a little too bitter, with a shy grain character and a little hard in the mouthfeel.
