A: The beer is nearly jet black in color—only traces of amber are visible near the edge of the glass when it is held up to the light. It poured with a half finger high dense tan head that never completely faded away, consistently leaving a thin layer of bubbles on the surface, a thick ring around the edge of the glass and some lacing down the edges.
S: There are aromas of lactose sugar and chocolate in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has flavors of lactose and milk chocolate; it almost tastes like a liquid version of chocolate mousse.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and although it has an added kick with the extra strength, the alcohol is well hidden from the taste. It doesn’t have the creaminess compared to other beers in the style but it has lots of chocolate flavors.

Southern Tier 2X Stout has a medium, cream-colored head, a dark brown, almost black, appearance, and just a little bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is a wonderful mix of milk/cream, dark-roasted malt, and sweet bread crust. Taste is the same, with low bitterness, but high acidity. Mouthfeel is heavy and slick, and Southern Tier 2X Stout finishes wet and sip-able.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip pint glass

The beer pours a deep brown/nearly black with about two fingers worth of dense tan head. The head fades relatively quickly leaving behind very little lacing.

The beer smells moderately roasty and slightly sweet, The aroma seems to fit into a nice middle ground of not being too mild, but also not being overpowering

The taste, like the aroma, is moderately roasty and slightly sweet. The sweetness seems to come more from a heavy handed use of crystal malts than from the lactose. The body is a little thinner than I would expect for the style.

Overall, this is a decent beer that is fairly easy to drink, but not something that I would seek out. I prefer my Milk/Sweet Stouts to be a bit fuller in body, and a have a little more sweetness from the lactose.

A- pours black with a 2 finger dark tan head. Small blotches of lacing polka-dot the glass.

S- chocolate and a lot of pine.

T- roasted malts and bitter, dark chocolate. Nice amount of pine hops that give it some bitterness.

M- medium body and carbonation. Has a slightly dry finish.

O- nice milk stout with good amount of hoppiness, which I like.

12 oz. bottle. Pours coffee black with an airy tan head of about 3-fingers that fades slowly to a thin cap. Not much lacing. Aroma is mocha, fruity and a little earthy.

Taste starts out with lactose sweetness and roasty grains, followed by a rich mocha toffee character. Finishes with a clean bitterness that is complimented by baking chocolate and a slight earthiness. Alcohol is well hidden. The sweetness becomes a little too prevalent as the stout begins to warm up, and the mouthfeel is a bit watery considering it's strength. Medium-low carbonation.

This beer is full of delicious and distinctive flavors considering there are no actual flavorings added, but I'm left wishing it had a more substantial mouthfeel.

It's a good beer. Not my favorite milk stout.
