First had: on tap at Teresa's, Wayne, PA
I find Southern Tier beers to be very hit or miss, and this one is definitely a miss. Poured a dark mostly-black color with a thin, wispy off-white head that dissipated almost completely; no real lacing to speak of. Not much on the aroma, some roasty malts, touch of cocoa. Taste was really very bland and one-dimensional, with simple dark roasted malts, and distant notes of cocoa and mild hops; tannin astringency abounds; dry finish with no flavor lingering. Thin and watery, light-bodied for the style, and really nothing here that would inspire me to order the beer again.

12oz bottle served in a standard pint glass.
L - black with a tan head that thinned to a ring, not much in the way of lacing.
S - black licorice and dark chocolate.
T - upfront there's a sweet chocolate and some coffee with espresso-like coffee finishing things off right before the licorice after taste kicks in.
F - medium/full bodied with a smooth and creamy feel.
O - a decent enough stout to enjoy every once in a while.

Poured from bottle into Jester King pint.
A- pours black with a 2 finger dark tan head. Small blotches of lacing polka-dot the glass.
S- chocolate and a lot of pine.
T- roasted malts and bitter, dark chocolate. Nice amount of pine hops that give it some bitterness.
M- medium body and carbonation. Has a slightly dry finish.
O- nice milk stout with good amount of hoppiness, which I like.

Poured into a pint glass.
Pours a near black. Lots of tight bubbles, tan head. head is dense and fluffy. Leaves a little lace and a patchy head. Decent looks.
Brew smells of sweet cocoa, milk chocolate. Roasted notes; coffee and nuttiness. Good nose.
Brew tastes full bodied; lots of smokey, roasted notes. Sweet cocoa, milk chocolate. Real good body on this one. Creamy mouthfeel, finishes smooth and a little dry. Nice spice up front as well. Wow a great brew here. Lots of great flavors and body. Great stuff.
Great brew here. I love the flavors, the mouthfeel, the drinkability. Only get a little bit of the abv in the end. Almost like an imperial milk stout. Great brew here.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Liquid portion comes out brown in color. There are brown and deep red highlights troughout the beer. Not much of a head on this one, tan in color and goes away pretty quickly.
Smell is ok, better than the average stout. Has some bitersweet (maybe a little more sweet than bitter) chocolate and some coffee, so mokah I guess. There are also hints of roastiness and smokyness. Slight earthy hop presence in the nose as well.
Taste is easily the best part of this beer. Like many from this brewery it's sweet, but not overdone. Plenty of coffee and bittersweet coffee flavors provided by the malt. There is also a smokey and roasty flavor to it as well. There is also a bitterness at the end. The bitter and sweet are very well balanced, like having coffee with your dessert.
Mouthfeel is good. Not too heavy for a stout, but certainly not too thin, I'd go with medium bodied. Good carbonation level with a nice bitterness at the finish. Well balanced and full flavor. Nothing not to like. A solid offering from Southern Tier.

A- black and opaque with a small tan head that stays around.
S- Sweet milk chocolate, coffee and a touch of earth. There's also a but of resins hop aroma that doesn't fit.
T/M- very smooth and creamy but the favors don't work. Moderately roasty flavors on the front end lead to a middle which is a confused mess of extreme sweetness and moderately strong bitterness, with the bitterness winning out and lasting long after the finish.
O/D- this is the type of beer where one aspect ruins all the positives. The hop bitterness of this is not only out of style but it's off putting and clashes with the sweet, chocolate and toast characteristics. Not something Id get again.

black. opaque. dark brown head. thick moussey head. good retention. great lacing.
smell is roasty malts. chocolate. coffee. i think it smells creamy, though i just may be expecting that because lactose is on the label. slight floral hop aroma.
roasted malts. sweet and bitter at the same time. very complex flavor. this is a good stout. much bitterness from the roasted malts. slight floral hop flavor and hop bitterness. flavors of chocolate and coffee and caramel and just general big malt all around. some heat from the alcohol comes through.
medium body. soft carbonation. it does kind of have a creamy mouthfeel.
not as sweet as i would expect a "sweet stout" to be. it is a mighty good stout though.

A - Poured out a jet black color with a bubbly, one-finger head of light brown foam. It left sudsy rings of lace on the glass.
S - It smelled of chocolate and some roastiness.
T - Good milk chocolate flavor with some roastiness - almost coffee-like. A touch of piney hop bitterness.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.
O - This is a really tasty double milk stout. I was skeptical but now I'm glad I bought a six pack.

A-pours black with a tan head that has pretty good retention. Leaves a small lace around the glass
S-Sweet chocolate and a bit of toasted malt, a bit milder aroma than I would have expected
T-Sweet chocolate and caramel up front followed by hop bitterness that finishes sweet and roasted
O-Not a bad stout but not the best from southern tier. I would get it again but not my favorite.
