Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Samuel Adams pint glass.

A - pours a dark brown, nearly black body with cherry/brown edges. Thin, 1-finger light brown head that slowly rises but quickly reduces to a white ring. Low, spotty lacing.

S - Coffee, roasted chocolate malt, dark chocolate

T - Starts with a sweet, milk chocolate burst of flavor. Finishes with a bitter cocoa, slightly hoppy aftertaste. Delicious

M- Full bodied, thick and robust. Minimum carbonation, which is characteristic of stouts.

Overall, a delicious, nicely balanced stout. Drink it for dessert, or to accompany dessert.

12 oz. bottle. Pours coffee black with an airy tan head of about 3-fingers that fades slowly to a thin cap. Not much lacing. Aroma is mocha, fruity and a little earthy.

Taste starts out with lactose sweetness and roasty grains, followed by a rich mocha toffee character. Finishes with a clean bitterness that is complimented by baking chocolate and a slight earthiness. Alcohol is well hidden. The sweetness becomes a little too prevalent as the stout begins to warm up, and the mouthfeel is a bit watery considering it's strength. Medium-low carbonation.

This beer is full of delicious and distinctive flavors considering there are no actual flavorings added, but I'm left wishing it had a more substantial mouthfeel.

Having tried many of Southern Tier over-the-top flavor beers (Creme Brulee, Chokolat), I thought it would be worth giving this a try, especially as the weather cools.

Served at cellar temp and allowed to gradually warm. In standard pint glass.

Small tan head over black. Leaves lacing throughout. Looks as I would expect.

Smell is a hint of roasted malt and hops. A bit of a disappointment.

Taste is better. Roasted malt, a bit of sweetness beside the malt. Hops are more prominent than I was expecting with a milk stout. Would have liked a bit more of the roastiness.

Mouthfeel is too thin for the style and strength. Carbonation is light.

Overall not what I was hoping for. While not bad, it is a bit lacking for style or for the expected ST strong-flavored brews. Alcohol is a bit evident in the taste and is noticeable by the end of a couple. Will finish the sixer but not sure I will be hunting this down again any time soon.

Purchased a single. I like a few other of the Southern Tier darks, so wanted to give this one a try.

Poured very black color with a nice frothy head.

Smells of cocoa and sweetness.

Overall, it was cocoa, sweetness, and little body. No alcohol taste at all. Carbonation minimal and a little minor bitterness at the end. Not complex at all. Not one of my favorite Southern Tiers. Considering I enjoy milk stouts, I was just not impressed.

Pours black, no head. Light carbonation. Smells of roasted malts. Taste is coffee with light bitterness. Good stout. This poured a dark brown, almost black body with a modest brown head that soon reduced to a film. The aroma was chocolatey with a quiet roastiness light floral scents. The roasted malts increased in the flavor and the chocolate became bittersweet. There was a roasty, hoppy bitterness that blended with a hit of alcohol. Dry finish. Not bad.

12oz bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass

A - It is not quite black as pitch. When held to a light source, ruby highlights come through. A meager pour gets me a thin film of tan head.

S - I get very rich roasted malt aromas. I get coffee and dark chocolate.

T - The richness carries over into the flavor. It is loaded with chocolate and roasted coffee.

M - Thick and creamy.

O - Initially, I loved the smell and taste of this beer and thought it was damn good. After a second beer I am noticing some flaws. The taste fades to more or a robust porter. The coffee and dark chocolate seem to lose their grip. It is very good, Maybe I am being too nitpicky.

A- Deep deep brown, garnet highlights. Head is one finger, and tan. Lasts mediocrely. Minimal lacing.
S- Smell is deep and pleasant. Chocolate-heavy with underpins of charcoal and espresso. Toes the line between standard stout and sweeter stout aromas.
T- I saw it was listed as a milk stout on here and the box confirms this, but im not getting too much residual sweetness. It's faintly sweet up front with strong dark chocolate flavors. Finish has a long, burnt flavor with charcoal and coffee grounds. Very tasty.
M- the body is decent but it doesn't have that nice rounded characteristic of many milk stouts. A bit rough around the edges.
O- A very tasty stout. The body could use smoothing, but it brings good flavors to the table.
