A - Poured a very dark, almost black color, with a tan frothy head.

S - The smell presents the aroma of roasted cocoa with a hint of creamy vanilla.

T - While drinking, the flavors of chocolate are present with a touch of milky sweetness. The alcohol taste is definitely there, but not overpowering. It does leave a bitter aftertaste.

M - It is very thick and creamy with moderate carbonation.

O - Overall this is an excellent stout and would highly recommend for all beer enthusiasts.

A nice looking beer- pure black with a creamy white head. Smells lightly roasty and creamy, with nice notes of vanilla and cocoa. A little light on taste, and with a slightly burnt bitter finish. The heart of the flavor, though, is a milky cocoa and vanilla taste layered on some light roastiness. Quite pleasant, but not seamless. Could be a tad silkier in the mouth for the style. The slightly burnt tannic notes on the finish are a bit jarring. Overall quite solid if a bit flawed in parts.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma features a lot of chocolate and a good bit of roasted malt. The flavor is very similar. The chocolate and nut notes really come through, as does some roasted malt. I also get some oats and lactose and cream notes in the flavor. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled 3/5/2012. Pours fairly pitch black color with a nice 1-2 finger fairly dense tn head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, caramel, coffee, roasted malt, cream, toast, biscuit, and slight herbal hops. Very nice aromas with great strength and balance. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, cream, toast, light pine, and citrus. Some decent pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, cream, and toast on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance of roasted flavors with the lactose; and a good bitterness/sweetness balance gives this zero cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and body; with a nice creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming after the finish. Overall this is a very nice milk stout. Nice robust and balanced flavors; and quite smooth to drink. Maybe a bit too much hop character for a milk stout, but a damn good offering nonetheless.

12oz bottle from the Potsdam NY IGA for 3.50$

Appearance - Brown colour with with an above average size fizzy light brown head. I can't make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, chocolate, grains, roasted notes

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, chocolate, and some roasted/toasted nuts. There is also a bit of a smokiness and a touch of bitter coffee flavour. It ends with a grainy/chocolate aftertaste with a bitterness that lingers for a bit.

Overall - Pretty good stuff.. the taste is nice and fairly well balanced. The booze also seems well hidden. Nothing really ground breaking, but still glad to have tried.

First Milk Stout from Southern Tier.

Pours out a really nice pitch black, with a tan fluffy head.

The aroma is a great blend of roasted malt, chocolate, hints of coffee and a creamy milk-like sweetness.

The taste is heavily dominated by the roasted malt upfront and then that blends into a nice mix of dark chocolate and a hint of coffee with a slightly sweet, slightly bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is full, rich and creamy.

Not the best Milk Stout I have tried, but a good representation of the style and a tasty beer.

Poured from 12oz bottle into NB globe. pours an oily black with slight tan head. Nice lacing.
Aromas of boozey sweet chocolate and roasted coffee malts. Taste is sweet roasted coffee malts. Some slight dried fruit and chocolate and vanilla flavors. Its a bit overly sweet, but otherwise a good above average stout. As true with most if not all stouts, let this one warm up. The flavors really come out as it warms...

Reviewing this again after having on nitro.

Appearance: Poured a deep brown into a standard pint glass with three fingers of beige head that stick around for a while. As the head fades it lines the glass with delicate brown lacing.

Smell: Chocolate, coffee and a bit of lactose. A bit of sweetness for sure but not a ton in the nose.

Taste: Silky smooth chocolate with more coffee than I got from the aroma. This is a very tasty stout with nice sweetness and little bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied but goes down smoothly and dangerously easy at 7.5%. Very creamy and a stout I could drink for a while.

Overall: A very solid offering and far better on nitro-tap. Definitely worth seeking out and a solid all-around beer from Southern Tier.
