Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a plain tumbler pint glass.
A: Poured a clean, clear, reddish-amber color with a one and a half-finger head of white carbonation that left some decent lacing on the glass. Steady carbonation is visible and holds head retention with some effort.
S: Candied fruits with a spicy, baked sweet-bread aroma. Hints of tangerine, cherry and raisins blend with spicy cinnamon, nutmeg and pungent coriander.
T: Smooth, slick and fruity malt profile builds in musky, resinous tangerine peel, dates, raisins and a boozy, fig flavor. Assertive, yet moderate, hops, rush the palate and level out some of the bready, spicy sweetness, leaving a resinous gingerbread flavor on the palate.
M: Full-bodied and a bit sticky-sweet at 8% ABV, it warms, but cloys up the palate as a bit as well.
O: A welcome addition to the "winter warmer/spiced holiday" beer category. Nice and warming at 8% ABV, this spiced brew allows you to get warm and cozy without tipping over into the realm of complex, winter sipper. No overwhelmingly good qualities, but some interesting, strong winter characteristics.
