Slightly cloudy gold with lemon citrus notes. Hops are somewhat one dimensional. Feels a bit thin but extremely drinkable. Refreshing beer, just wish it had some more body.

More like a session ipa than a pale ale. Needs more malt or sweetness. A touch thin and metallic. Nice citrus hop smell but the lack ness in body makes this one just a so so enjoyment .

Pours a hazy medium gold producing 2 fingers of frothy, off-white, moderately lasting head that leaves sheets & streaks of lace. Aroma is pale & biscuit malt, a little graham cracker, notes of floral, lemon juice & zest, grass & a hint of onion. Taste is grapefruit & lemon, earthy floral, thin pineapple & grass hop notes, pale malt, biscuit & light pepper, finishing lightly tropical with a dry mineral hint backed by a light hoppy bitterness that becomes the dominant character of the bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation, silky with a pepper bite & dry in the finish & aftertaste.

This beer pours a light orange gold color with a big bright white head with little retention and good lacing. The smell is citra hops as advertised. Not overwhelming, but lemon and orange are most noticable with a hint of grassiness. Taste is much the same. Feel is light, but not watered down. Overall very crushable but still has a great deal of flavor. Definitely a good golf course beer.

Pours into glass as a cloudy light orange gold color with a nice off white head. Aroma hits the nose and immediately you get the Citra hop notes. I love Citra hops and the taste of this beer nails exactly what I was looking for and smelled! Citrusy, fruity upfront taste with minimal malty backbone but no over bitterness, the beer is almost sweet but not too sweat. More of an IPA than an APA. Overall, it's one of my all time favs, if I see it in liquor stores, I must buy it, a lot of it!!

Both the aroma and taste are full of bright citrus with just the slightest hints of grass and pine resin. The light body never approaches "watery" territory, and is able to carry the flavors well on a subtle grainy malt backbone. That's a damn solid pale ale. At 5.5% it's definitely NOT a session ale, but that's ok with me. I can't taste marketing buzzwords. This is another beer I always tended to pass by for more "exciting" options on the shelf. But having recently tried it for the first time, it's safe to say I'll be drinking more of this.

First had poured from 12-oz. bottle into tulip. Southern Tier calls this a Citrusy Session Pale Ale. At 5.50 ABV, it slightly stretches the definition of "sessionable," but not the desire to have more than one.

12oz bottle. Appearance: Clear golden with a thick white head and nice lacing. Aroma: Pineapple, citrus, pine resin. A dank hop undertone. Taste: Light maltiness, crackery and bready. Strong herbal and spicy hop flavors, with some citrus and grassy resin. Mouthfeel: Medium body and moderate carbonation. Finish: Well balanced, leaning slightly on the bitter side with some lingering grass and tropical fruit. Overall: A really good APA. Well balanced with a variety of hop flavors and aromas, none of which overpower the rest of the beer

Had this on tap, on vacation in upstate New York.... Had a hard time finding craft beers I enjoyed (from Chicago and I have so many amazing choices everywhere I go).... However this one nailed it.... Absolutely AMAZING, way underrated here on BA.

This is very similar to the Other Half Mosaic IMO. Murky straw color about a finger of head and tremendous lacing throughout. There is a lot of orange characteristic in the flavor and aroma of this beer. Also a bit of lemon and biscuit. Truly a great APA.

I really like this. Citrusy hops and a light malt bill make this akin to cold lemonade on a hot summer day. It has enough bitterness to have a short but enjoyable aftertaste and at such a low abv is crushable.

Look: Hazy golden yellow with a BIG fully, white head. A very good looking beer!

Smell: Orange citrus with bitter hops.

Taste: Orange citrus with bitter hops. Exactly as the aromas say it is, is how it tastes.

Feel: Very smooth, but crisp. Creamy, but refreshing

Appearance: Cloudy golden amber, with a big head of off-white suds. Nice loopy tree-line lace.

Aroma: Citrus hops. Very nice!

Taste: Bright and rich on the hops front, with a heavy body, especially for a “session pale ale”. This is a strong and flavorful pale ale, nearly approaching IPA status. Not bad.

Reviewed 4-16-15. Bottled on 2-9-15. Threshold glass. [Updated for 7-14-15, on draft, nonic pint]

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy dark gold with 1/2" foamy off-white head & lots of carbonation. Retains a ring of froth along the edge. Not much lacing.

Aroma: Resiny, floral, with crisp malt. Grassy? Bright.

Taste: Dry, light arrival. Some resiny hops on arrival, resiny bitterness on mid-palate. Light bittering end.

Mouthfeel: Light-to-mid bodied. Lots of small bubble carbonation. Malty backbone, slightly slick.

Overall: I can see why hop-heads love this. Very light, quaffable, hoppy APA. Light but not as "clean" as, say, Sierra Nevada. Definitely not as malty as Sam Adams Boston Ale. Less sweet than GL Burning River. I would buy this again, but can get better local options. [On second try, it really is like a session IPA, but that's not a bad thing.]

Poured a 12oz. bottle into IPA glass.

The color is a hazy orange with some slight yellow highlights. There are about three fingers of foamy white head and some nice thick lacing left on the glass.

The smell is pretty darn grassy and brings about images of summer days pushing the lawnmower around in the hot sun. There is a good pine aroma that is a bit like Douglas Fur and points at tree trimming parties from holidays past.

The taste is fruity with touches of tangerine, peach, pear and grapefruit mixed together with some bitterness that pushes things around a little and is pretty assertive. There is a nice twang that is helped along by an earthy flavor that comes in late and is there till the bitterness comes back and washes everything away.

The feel is medium bodied and has a smooth finish that goes down easy but leaves a bitter aftertaste that is enjoyable and lets you savor the hops even after the beer is gone.

Very refreshing summer session ale. Great ale with light citrus notes. Hard to find in N.J.Also this beer is "bottle conditioned" not exactly sure how that works. Beer is very good.

I actually don't distinctly remember this ale, but at the time of tasting (3 mo or more ago) I wrote in my beer log that it was as good as Harvest Ale (4.75). Later have amended this.

Appearance: Gold, carbonated, hazy/cloudy, white head, lacing
Smell: citrus, grapefruit, pine, citrus hops
Taste: lemon citrus, hop forward. More hoppy for a pale ale. A mix of a wheat beer and a pale ale. Wheat, grain, malts, refreshing summer beer.
Feel: moulth feel is very light, crisp and sparkling from the carbonation.
Overall: I absolutely love this beer. I am a big fan of wheat beers as well as pale ales and this is an excellent marriage of the two. They don't let on that it is such, but it is most certainly unfiltered and has a lovely hazy feel to it and has just the right amount of hops to add a nice kick to it. I had it right at the Southern Tier Brewery out of their tap and I am sure that this added to the freshness of it. I have had it in the bottle and it is just as good. The theme fits it as this beer is alive and kickin'

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #80 (Sep 2013):

Raw and full of flavor. Unlike any beer Southern Tier brews, as most are really focused, while Live seems more free, though still well within the style. A treat to knock back, though so complex you may want to pair it with something.

STYLE: American Pale Ale
ABV: 5.5%

LOOK: Hazed pale gold, some suds

SMELL: Citrus rind, pineapple, nutty, faint mint, fresh-cut grass

TASTE: Lighter body, crisp, thick citrus tone, balanced hop bitterness, fresh grain, chalky yeast, hint of peaches, peppery, touch of alcohol, marmalade, juicy, grainy, drying finish

Cold bottle poured gently produced a solid white head of clotted foam with a steady stream of tiny carbonation bubbles. Very pale nearly yellow beer with mild sweet citrus hop aromas, little if any malt in the nose for me. Some trub left to swallow from bottle. Well done on the bottle conditioning.

Flavor is weak at best with a faint sweetness behind sharp, astringent hop flavors and a metallic, bone dry bite on my tongue that I wanted to scrape off. Over boiled pellet taste I'm so tired of these days.

Not a bad beer - ST doesn't make "bad" beer, but this lacks character and any toasty, bready flavors to off set the one note hop harshness in such a lite bodied ale.
If you've been disappointed by US Craft attempts at a balanced Bitter or Special Bitter type ale, bottle conditioned or otherwise, this one will too.

In short- IPA flavor in a pale ale. Saw that this was on tap at the Jersey City Barcade and I had to go try it out. I have had bottles of this before and very much enjoyed them. Given the conceit of this beer I figured having it on tap was necessary. Rich citrus, hoppy flavors, medium bodied and very easy to drink; like, I could drink this all day.It might be fun to try. I really like this stuff.
