A solid IPA from Southern Tier. It's basically like a mini-unearthly IPA, so if you liked that, you'll love this.

A: IPA's really don't vary much in appearance. A Hazy orange/golden color.

S: A balanced nose, more balanced that I expected, like the unearthly.

T: So here's the deal. This beer, for a six-pack, costs exactly $1 less than a six-pack of Bell's Two-Hearted Ale. My remark to my friend when drinking this was "You can sure taste that dollar". Are the hops there? Yes, and they're fresh and well presented. Is there some malt to balance? Yes, more than enough. It lends the beer a really good drinkability, but slightly outweighs the hops. The Southern Tier IPA just lacks the extra oomph the Two-Hearted Ale has... that beer turns the hops up to 11 and has, in my opinion, the perfect balance of malt. The Southern Tier is extremely similar, but it has slightly more malt and the hops are just not as good in flavor or rich in smell.

M: Excellent mouthfeel. Low carbonation.

D: Souther Tier makes extremely drinkable IPA's.

Overall, despite my less than excellent rating of this beer, I don't discount the fact that it's an excellent brew and certainly would be a very worthy backup in the case that I couldn't get the Bell's Two Hearted Ale wherever I end up in the future.

Pours light amber color with a 1-2 finger width foamy head. Excellent lacing on side of glass. The odor is subtle. Can discern some citrus and pine. There is a soapy smell. Malty, citrus taste upfront. Malty taste persists with a moderate piney hoppy taste at the end. The bitterness, although mild, does persists through after drinking. Overall, a good IPA. I would like a little more hoppy smell and bitterness at the end.
