OK, I have a beef with this beer. A major criticism. It is better than this style is supposed to be. Where do they get off making something so good in this style?
I am pretty biased as I have professed my love of this brewery, but this really is a great example of a steam. If Anchor was this good I would drink it more often.
It is beautiful once you pour it, with clarity and a pretty little head. The aroma brings back the memory of what this is supposed to be. And the taste is Anchor on steroids. The aftertaste is a dark hoppy thing.
Perfect! Except that it is too good.

Appearance is a cloudy light copper with a half finger of lacing. This offering is heavier in both body and flavor than the standards of this style. The flavor is malty with an almost molasses-like sweetness. The finish is semi-dry and lightly bitter. There is also a faint lingering sweet note.
I think that this experiment proves that not all beer styles are better "doubled" or "imperialed."
