A: Amber in color light pour soft head

S: smells a lot like an English ipa some rye and overall fairly earthy slightly herbal

T: it almost tastes like rust smells, malty, rye is there more herbal floral hops

M: medium to light mouthfeeel nothing noteworthy pretty straightforward

O: a solid beer nothing really stands out on this beer not even the rye Southern Tier makes straightforward solid beers like GLBC but unless it's the backwater series nothing stands out

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Brooklyn chalice.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head which settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A juicy and spicy hop forward aroma with hints of rye, caramel, and citrus. Upfront citrus hops with hints of orange peel, lemon, and grapefruit. Earthy and grassy hops with hints of pine resin. Toasted malt with hints of sweet caramel, toffee, grains, biscuit, and yeast. Good scent of rye spicing. A pretty solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a spicy, juicy, and earthy taste with notes of rye spice, caramel malt, and citrus. Citrus hops with juicy notes of orange peel, grapefruit, and lemon. Earthy and floral hop presence with notes of pine resin and grass. Solid presence of rye spice. Toasted malt with notes of caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, and yeast. A pretty solid ripe taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Juicy, spicy, and somewhat oily. A little heat is felt but it isn’t difficult to get down.

Overall: A pretty good take on a Rye beer. Good balance of juicy hop notes with caramel malt with the rye adding a nice kick.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Born on date of 7/29/14, so say 2 1/2 months.

Pours a very nice yellow amber with a small off white creamy head which maintains to the end. Lacing starts off okay, but later is a solid wall. Very goos arbonation as well.

didn't get anything on the nose. nada. zip.

Now taste is a nother matter. excellent balance of sweet malt on the top of the tongue and hop bitterness on the sides, and pepperiness from the rye spiking in here and there. Beautifully balanced, which could be a signature this particular beer, or because it smoothed out a little after 10 weeks. Only way to know ist to drink some more next fall.

Looking forward to it.
