Drank at cellar temperature in a snifter. This one kind of puzzled me.
It appears black, basically, but it's not an opaque black. It's a transparent black that I can see through in the shallow parts of the glass. There's a two-finger pale tan head that doesn't last long.
Now I don't like to compare beers, but this one really smells EXTREMELY similar to that other brew of pumpkin origins that Southern Tier makes: Pumking. All the same pumpkin pie spices are there , along with what might be some very subtle dark fruitiness and maple underneath that. But it's pretty much the exact same aroma Pumking has. It's a good smell, but it would have been nice if this imperial stout smelled a little more like... a stout.
Early on, the flavor profile also follows Pumking. There's pumpkin pie flavor, but then a bitter, charred earth character develops in the transition to the finish, which has a similarity to unsweetened chocolate, and is also a bit like oatmeal, oddly.
The feel is thinner than would be ideal for an imperial stout, in my opinion. But not terrible.
While this beer has some interesting traits, they don't harmonize all that well. It's suspiciously similar to Pumking, and doesn't possess very many imperial stout qualities. Kind of seems like a beer with an identity crisis. However, it's still relatively enjoyable.

Pours into a goblet a deep cola color with a half finger light beige head that left a broken ring of lace as it settled quickly.Wow the most aromatic pumpkin infused beer I have come across, roasted pumpkin, cardamom, and raw leafy hops stand out most, add vanilla and graham crackers and you have a big complex nose.Flavor of roasted pumpkin and vanilla/spices with some roast, like a pumpkin latte, the raw hops are still playing a big role. What a cool beer,it's a brash pumpkin stout with a real hop profile with alot of malty richness.Top notch.

In a goblet, this beer was a very dark brown, near black color. There was a minuscule to non-existant tan head.
Sweet chocolate aroma. Some pumpkin. Very subtle spice.
Taste followed form. Milk chocolate and pumpkin. A little allspice.
This was a smooth, not overly spiced beer. I thought the combination of stout and pumpkin went very well, with enough spice, but not too much spice.

This was a really interesting beer. An imperial stout brewed with pumpkin puree!!! They recommend you serve it in a goblet, and I was happy to oblige. The beer starts out tasting like a very nice imperial stout and then breaks off into a nice natural pumpkin flavor with a nice kick at the end!
Was happy I found this at my local store, worth the 10$- Looking forward to buying it next year or finding it on tap again!

Appearance: high carbonation, 3/4 inch head, clear, dark brown in color
Smell: pumpkin spice and graham cracker
Taste: dark chocolate, charred/roasted malt, cream, sugar, and pumpkin spice
Mouthfeel: Sweet with bitter char in the background, medium-heavy body, medium-high carbonation
Overall: Really tasty compliment beer to Pumpking. I do think I like Pumpking better, but this one is a nice combo of char and great pumpkin flavor. Southern Tier does pumpkin well.
