poured a relatively thin, translucent black with light tan head

aroma- like many have noted, Pumking-- baked spices nutmeg and allspice(?) little cinnamon, roasty vanilla, very little traces of dark malt

taste- same overwhelming spices up front, some roasted barley, fades into subtlest note of chocolate, pumpkin puree, and char

feel- pretty standard good stout feel, I was hoping a little more viscous. Light and not too boozy

I had higher hopes, to be honest. This is very much like Pumking, and I hate to admit but I'm just not a huge fan of pumking. I think this could've been more balanced between spice and and roasted malt flavors, perhaps higher abv could've brought out a little more sweetness and richness, but who knows I'm not the expert

I love Pumking so I was excited to try this. Just bought a new desktop for the wife, so I thought I would pop this open while getting things set up. Its a cool, rainy fall day here in South Florida (well, cool for our standards, about 78F), so its a perfect day for a fall seasonal.

Popped this one open and was immediately hit by the same aromas as Pumking, which is a great thing. Pours nearly pitch black with some espresso and dark violet highlights. Topped with a rich and frothy, cuban coffee type head that leaves tons of lacing and remains frothy goodness for a long while.

Aroma is pure gold. Vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, that proprietary Pumking blend is the best in the business. Think Yankee Candle Vanilla Cookie meets Yankee Candle Fall Scents. Pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin crackers come to mind.

Wonderful flavor. Pumking is my favorite pumpkin beer of all time, but I now question whether this surpasses. There is only a slight bit of roastinees to hint that this is a stout underneath. Solid bit of bitterness from hops and roasted grains. Great seasonal flavors of vanilla cookies and fresh baked chocolate cookies with pumpkin spice.

Mouthfeel is right on par with a stout. Wonderful beer!

Split this with my wife at 10:30 AM on a Saturday morning while watching "Rocky III."

Served in a 3 Stars glass.

A: Didn't pour out of the bottle as thick as I thought it might, but then again, compared to the Marshall Zhukov I had last night, just about everything is thin. Pretty much pitch black after all was said and done. A few mocha bubbles posing as a head.

S: It had the same velvety, graham cracker crust quality as Pumking. Pretty awesome. Pumpkin spices weren't too overpowering.

T: Very, very, VERY similar to Pumking. Seriously, this is basically Pumking with some black food coloring and a bit of char. Damn tasty.

M: Not the overly sweet bomb I was expecting. I wish it were a bit thicker, but that is just personal preference. Virtually no lacing.

O: If you've had Pumking, you've basically had this beer. Still, it was damn tasty.

Had on tap at Mahaffey's on 11/2/13

A: One finger head. Pitch black. Excellent lacing.

S: Smells amazing. Lots of Pumpkin Spice, Allspice, Cinnamon, Cloves, and Cardamom. Like fresh pumpkin pie.

T: Pumpkin spice! Lots of pumpkin. Stoutish. The stout just really carries the flavors. Roasty malts.

M: Prickly with coarse bubbles.

O: Lots of pumpkin spice. One of the better pumpkin/fall offerings.

P: Very dark brown body with mahogany highlights. Small micro bubble khaki head. Settles to a thin translucent cap with minimal lacing.

S: Sweet cream, graham crackers, melted butter, roasted pumpkin, caramel, cinnamon in the background.

T/M: Bitter dark malts, burnt molasses, sweet pumpkin, floral bitterness in the back of the throat. Nutmeg and cinnamon add to the sweet graham cracker crust and charred black malts. Floral and earthy hops round out the finish with a nice bitter bite. Medium body with prickly carbonation and a semi dry finish.

O: This is pretty good stuff. It's what should be anticipated but successfully crafted better than I expected. Basically "Pumpking" mixed with a charred bitter stout profile added to the mix. The only negative I would point out is the floral hop bitterness that throws off the marriage of flavors. Glad I picked this up.
