Beautiful golden, mostly clear brew. Aroma is very subdued; there's a touch of pine and grassy hops, and it's slightly grainy, but nothing comes screaming forth.
Flavor is shockingly old school: aggressively bitter, with grapefruit/orange peel and pith. Just a bit herbal, vegetal, and green.
Very lively mouthfeel, with a touch too much sting. As such, it drinks more like a single IPA; despite the ABV, there isn't a ton of malty backbone.
A very surprising brew that I think will remind people of classic Stone brews (IPA, Ruination).

12 oz. can.
Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a cloudy, light golden body with some sticky lacing. After a few minutes head dissipates down to a ring with floating clumps. Nose of citrus, tropical fruit, and slight pine. Taste mirrors nose nicely, quite juicy with a great finish that is very gentle in the bitterness department, which is just fine by me. A smooth offering, nice mouthfeel, and would recommend. Cheers!

Scored a can. Pours a hazy orange color, head dissipates pretty quickly, lots of lace. This is a juice bomb on the lighter side of juice so not like someone mixed orange juice and beer. But definitely juicy. Citrusy. Did I mention the citrus? A really fun drinkable (too drinkable?) double IPA.

Had on tap at The Sitting Duck Tavern in Stratford. Poured into a snifter glass this one is amber color, almost clear, decent foamy head.
Smell is pretty balanced, very malty with a strong fruity backbone, some hops in there too lend a bit of citrus. Flavor wise this has a big caramel malt note upfront, somewhat cloying middle, bit of grapefruit and bitterness near the end.
Overall this is an old style East Coast IPA. Lots of malt driven fruity sweetness with some hops to wash it down. Decent DIPA but outdated.

64 oz. growler purchased from the source. Pumpkin orange in appearance; a finger and a half of rocky head that dissipates quickly; and minimal lacing. Copious doses of pineapple in the nose, including notes of guava, papaya and tamarind. The taste is a nice mix of the same with hints of pink grapefruit, lemon zest and cracked pepper. Oily hop resin on the finish; semi-dry; and just enough tongue smacking bitterness to satisfy the regular hop head. This isn't a phenomenal beer, but it's good. I'm glad that I was able to try it. Cheers.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy burnt orange color with an inch of frothy white head. Some lacing. The aroma is lots of tropical and citrus fruits. Mango, pineapple, orange, and lime. The taste is more fruits, but mostly the citrus ones. Lime, orange, and grapefruit rind. Hints of pineapple and melon. Medium bodied. Dry mouthfeel. Overall, solid Imperial.

One of the best american doubles I have ever had. Absolutely impressive beer for a small brewery tucked away in Groton, CT. I had the privilege of tasting Pliny the Elder in LA in 2014 and can honestly say Punching The Ocean is close to par with that beer.
Look: Very goldish-orangy with minimal foam head.
Smell: Super fruity with something sweet mixed in as well.
Taste: Perfect balance of hoppy, smooth, and not too overpowering on the fruit. Includes mango, pineapple, and Azacca.
