S: Lemon, straw, banana, and clove.

T: Similar- straw, banana, clove spice, lemon, some grassy notes, ripe citrus fruits.

M: Medium with that awesome hefe light-heaviness (if that makes sense).

O: A good beer! Not the best hefeweizen I've ever had, but damn near up there.

A: Bright golden color, semi filtered. Nice even lace.

S: A soft smooth dose of banana bread, cloves and faint fruitiness, classic hefe without being overwhelming

T: Best hefe I've had, and I spent 3 years in Germany! (Of course, that has been a long time ago...) ... all the classic required flavors (banana, bread, light sweetness, clove-spice) are here and it's extremely clean. Very drinkable and refreshing.

M: Medium body with a crisp clean finish

Overall, an excellent Hefe, Just what you need in 110 degree summers!

Served on tap into a shaker glass.

A- Poured a hazy and bright golden color with frothy white head that left chunky lace.

S- Big pear, bubblegum, clove, citrusy, and banana notes in the aroma. A big juicy fruitiness and some astringency in the aroma.

T- Big tangy banana, juicy citrusy notes, bubblegum, clove, and light pear notes. Very juicy.

M- Prickly carbonation, very smooth, medium body, dry, and refreshing.

O- This is a world class and full-flavored hefeweizen. I am very impressed and this is among the most complex and flavorful hefeweizens I have ever had as someone who loves the style.

On draught at Flying Saucer Sugarland, Tx

A – Very hazy straw color with light head that dissipated quickly.
S – Banana and bready nose.
T – Great big banana flavor on the front with a bready middle tongue with nice mild clove aftertaste.
M - Medium Body, Slight to Moderately Carbonation, my friends commented that it was fluffy, and it had a nice crisp finish.
O – Have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of hefe’s, but this one has me re-thinking the style and I appreciate and love this one for sure. I would highly recommend and I will be looking to enjoy this more often.

This beer truly changed my beer drinking life. Prior to my move to Austin I was not a hefe guy. I didn't like wheat beers at all really but the Live Oak Hefe, well that and the 100 degree Texas heat, turned it all around.

One of the first episodes of Locapour features the Live Oak Hefe: http://locapour.tv/austin/liveoakhefeweizen

As you'll see the beer's color is a work of art. The smell is heavenly and the taste is unmistakable. I highly recommend you try it.

Poures at Old School in Austin. Hazy bright yellow with a small head. Wheaty, yeasty, lemony banana aroma. Crisp banana yeast with serious sweetness and lots of body for the style. Very flavorful hefe. Medium mouthfeel with heavy carbonation that lightens up the brew nicely. Refreshing and very good brew. Impressed that they can do a German style so nicely out in Texas.

On tap at Umami Mia's Pizzeria Austin TX. Menu said 12 IBU. Nice outdoor patio watching the wierdos go by on Barton Springs Road. Excellent pizza.

A: Pint glass, not a lot of head when I got it, ring around the edge persisted. Hazy yellow.

S: Classic hefe sweet banana.

T: Malty banana bread like.

M: Smooth and slightly syrupy in a hefe-like way.

O: 2nd best hefe I've had. Excellent pizza beer. Unless I'm really in the mood for something else I'll get this when I go back. Wondering if it would be even better in the bottle.

Had this one on tap for the first time, and I've been dying to try this for a while.

A- Cloudy yellow color, definitely cloudy. Nice frothy head.

S- Sweet bananas, very little clove, nice lemon and grassy notes.

T- This shit is BANANAS "B-A-N-A-N-A-S" haha! Biggest banana bomb I've ever tasted. So rich and sweet. There's a little clove present, and it finishes with a little lemon tingle.

M- Dang this beer feels so creamy and frothy, it's awesome and so refreshing.

O- If I only had one beer wish, I might just use it by asking for this to be sold in cans at my grocery store. My fridge would be stocked up all year long! I don't think I could get tired of this beer. It's friggin amazing!

I only got to sample 5oz of this stuff as it came as part of a flight of 5 Texas beers for $10. On tap at the Flyinhg Saucer Beer Emporium in downtown Houston, Texas.

The beer poured a hazy gold color typical for a hefe. Despite the small sample, the beer made a 2-finger fluffdy white head with good retention but little lacing.

The beer smelled like bubble gum.

Nice banana/clove flavor but with some other citrusy flavors as well - orange and lemon. Both sweet and tangy with light wheat malt and yeasy flavor.

Medium bodied with fairly high prickly carbonation.

This is a very good hefe. If I see it again, I'll be sure to order a full glass.

Enjoyed this HefeWeizen in downtown Austin....straight from the tap into a pint glass.

A - Beautiful; opaque; yellow/white fluffy look; limited head off the pour but nice, white, lacy clouds on the edge of the glass throughout. A gorgeous looking beer....

S - Banana, citrus, wheat, pleasurable smell.

T - Just like it smells; banana, wheat, oak, citrus. A very nice taste...

M - Slightly carbonated but still very smooth on the palate; a little bit of a bite that fades quickly.

Overall - Really enjoyed this beer; a nice, smooth hefe; would definitely have this one again.

Served on tap at Opal Divine's Marina in Austin, TX

A: Pours a cloudy pale straw yellow in color with some light amounts of small white yeast particles and moderate to heavy amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy bright white head that had great retention properties and slowly reduced to a small half finger tall cap in the center of the beer. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of wheat with banana, clove, and some lighter amounts of lemon citrus.

T: Moderate flavors of wheat with some lighter amounts of banana, clove, orange peel, and lemon citrus.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Extremely easy to drink and refreshing, quite a thirst quencher. I really enjoyed this beer and it could definitely be a session beer for me as I would have no problem putting down several of these. Also, a great hot weather beer.

Had on tap in Dallas. Poured straw colored hazy and with a thick pillowy white head. Aroma was your typical wheat and banana for the style. I didn't get any clove. Tingly mouthfeel from the high carbonation. The flavor of this beer was outstanding. A smooth and refreshing banana wheat taste that finishes dry. Easiest drinking beer for the style I've ever had.

Had this on tap at Hay Merchant in Houston.

Nice hefeweizen appearance as it was a slightly cloudy yellow and had a pure white head with good lacing. The nose was nice and creamy and had some nice clove notes along with a small hint of banana and lemon peel. The taste pretty much was spot on, slightly bitter which I was surprised at, it could have been simply the carbonation, but great taste otherwise. Nice malt base with caramel malts mixed with the banana and clove, I agree it's better balanced than others in this category, but I actually enjoy a nice banana-y hefe. Great overall beer, light-bodied, very drinkable and very well balanced.

Picked this one up in downtown Dallas, one of only three places in the Big D to have it on tap. A fantastic, number 1 Hefe, hands out. Nice banana, clove, lemon zest, and malt goodness. Regardless if you are in love with the style (I'm somewhere in the middle), it's worth seeking out.

On tap poured into a tulip pint glass at The Esquire Tavern in San Antonio. Beer pours a hazy pale yellow with a finger and a half of foamy thick white head. Head stuck around for a few minutes before fading, leaving some sticky blotches of lacing. Good carbonation visible, small bubbles floating up gently.

Nose is interesting, lemon peel, floral hops, fruity esters of green apple and pear, biscuit malts, and a light spice of clove and coriander. This tastes more like a Belgian witbier than a hefeweizen, but still very nice smelling.

Tastes like a nice witbier as well. Very clean flavors of lemon and coriander, biscuit malts, and floral hops. Finishes medium with some lingering lemon and biscuit malts.

Light body with great carbonation. Very easy to drink and enjoyable. Slightly dinged for not have the banana characteristic I'm used to, but a very well made beer.

Served in a pint glass at the Flying Saucer in Rockwall, TX. Second try at Strangeways in Dallas. Thanks Matt and Eric, MUCH better beer this time.

A - Cloudy, yellowish, straw-colored. Decent head for American Hefe. Looks good.

S - Bananas are immediately present. Had the Banana bread beer, this has more bananas by alot. Mild citrus, but bananas are what this beer brings to the nose.

T - Taste mirrors the nose. You guessed it, bananas but in a good way. Above average American Hefe with a nice dose of bananas and hints of citrus. Finishes clean and delicious. Could easily drink ALOT of this...willingly.

M - Great mouthfeel for an American Hefe. Smooth, coating with a smooth, crisp finish. Lingers where it needs to but in a totally pleasant way.

O - One of the best, if not THE best American hefeweizens I have had. If you have had American Hefe, you owe it yourself to seek this offering out. I still prefer the quality German offerings over their American cousins, but if I am going to drink a hefeweizen from THIS side of the pond...I want it to be from Live Oak. Great job guys, making the home State proud.

Way above average American weizen. If you're into banana/cloves, this one pours it on.

My quibble is it leaves a sour, sticky aftertaste. Germans finish way cleaner. This interferes with the more-ishness...

Wow. My review is not accepted. It was thirty characters short. Hope you enjoyed this gratuitous paragraph.

This is a winner. Pours a cloudy golden color with a big banana aroma, rounded out with some cloves. Full flavored, with the yeast working overtime giving it a citrusy punch. It’s lemony with lingering banana and clove flavor and a long finish. I can see why this is such a popular brew.

On-tap at the brewery during their tour.

A - Pours a beautiful hazy yellow-orange with a nice white head that sticks to the sides.
S - Subtle hints of bananna, bubble-gum, some cloves. A touch of bready yeastyness as well.
T - Delicious. Bananna and clove, just like the nose, with a fruity/citrus splash on the finish.
M - Good carbonation, medium body, smooth crisp finish.
O - Top notch. Third time I've had this brew and it never disappoints. Tasty, drinkable and refreshing. I wish this was available in Atlanta...

My first impression of this beer is that it's delicate. It looks soft and impressionable. Somewhat murky golden, bright. Soft pillow of semi-sticky white head. Nice lacing. Great looking

Aroma is a tad subdued. Banana is dominant, but not 'in yo face'. Clove and sticky toast. White pepper here and there. While this beer does not cast its aroma across the room, it is intoxicating while close.

The flavors here are very nice and controlled. The banana is still dominant, but not by much. It's like an un-opened banana, lacks some sweetness. Yet it's not "green" if that makes sense. The white pepper and clove dance around. Biscuit is always there, soft and lying unattended.

What makes the flavors pop is the carbonation. Quite a nice feel to it. A dash of hops invites the bubbles to do their thing. Quenching and addictive.

Very nice hefe

I've been wanting to tick this beer for over four years since I joined this site. I have always been apathetic in trying to acquire one, figuring I would be able to try it one day. Well, a work trip to Dallas turned out to be that time. Went to the Dallas Flying Saucer, and among the 130 taps that day was Live Oak Hefe. Here I go...

A: Orange juice. Pours a very bright and immensely cloudy yellow with a touch of orange coloring. A nice, vibrant white head sits atop the beer, and hangs around for a few sips. What I would expect from a hefeweizen.

S: This is definitely an American Hefeweizen, as it is not dominated by sweet banana and/or clove. It is very light with a nice grainy yeast element. Some light fruits and bread as wel.

T: Pretty much the same as the nose. Very light and drinkable, great usage of the wheat, with some slight banana, orange, and pine hope bitterness.

Overall, one of the best American Hefes I have had. It comes close to East End Monkey Boy, but falls just short I think. A job well done on this.

From Notes:
An opaque banana yellow with a nice head. A sweet, tart aroma which follows through to the taste. Very fruity, cirtusy, and yeasty. Crisp and easy to drink, with slight carbonation.

A very good example of a hefeweizen. We got a keg for a party and it definitely went over well with everyone.

One of my all time fav's and I never got to set up a review til now. Pours a nice yellow straw color, cloudy the way a Hefe should be. Aroma is a nice Banana and citrus, some say hints of cloves but I usually don't pick much of that up. Taste is flavorful, thirst quenching and echoes the aroma. Mouthfeel is thin but fits the style quite comfortably. Perfect for enjoying on a hot texas day!

appearance
pours a deep golden yellow topped by a fluffy white head measuring between a finger and a finger and a half with strong retention.

smell
smells better than any hefe I’ve ever snuffed. Notes of ripened bananas, sweet vanilla and far from overpowering clove scents with hints of citrus, & nutmeg too. Very complex & inviting, and very pleasant.

taste
Delicate and flavourful- easy to drink a lot of! It tastes like it smells and the head lends a smooth creaminess. Bananas are dominant and other citrus flavors present with a nice almost spicy clove after taste.

mouthfeel
very smooth, medium bodied with perfect carbonation

overall
hands down my favorite hefe

Big fan of Live Oak beers and this one is definitely a favorite. Great to drink anywhere with hot summer temperatures- not to high in ABV but still flavorful and easy to drink. I highly recommend anyone who is in Austin or visiting to go on their Brewery tour
