Poured with a golden color, nice fluffy head, and had opaque body. Smells of banana, some citrus fruits, and a small hint of vanilla. The taste was a nice change from most hefeweizens I've tasted, the different fruits used in a unique blend. I especially enjoyed the small hint of vanilla. Very drinkable beer, easily sessionable and overall a joy to drink.

Came with a finger's worth of bone-white head with low retention. Nose was heavy on banana with an undercurrent of clove. Color was a hazy golden-yellow. Mouthfeel was medium with a LOT of banana esters on the tongue. Stylistically, a great example, especially for an American brewer, but for me, I was shiveringly cold on it. Finish was not a total fruit bomb, but it was too close for my liking. Cloves, people! Fermentation at lager temps, please.

had it in austin...

pour is nice with a lemon yellow cloudy golden color. nose is crisp floral, clove, and a very very delicate banana. boy do i love a fresh well made hef. and this is it. palate is crisp with lavender, chamomile, banana, clove and apple. very refreshing. had two. quite a creamy mouthfeel. minty crisp finish.

the best on this site... and won't argue. its fantastic. but i've had german hefs on tap in source and they were just as great.

when older the floral mild into something of wet chamomile and lavender... banana is a bit more prevalent then. feel doesn't have the clean quality anymore but till not stale.

Cloudy golden-yellow body with a creamy alabaster head. Leaves nice, thin, long sheets of lace as the beer is imbibed. The nose is all bubble tape original bubble gum, cloves and banana. The taste shows bubble gum, wheat malt, coriander, banana and freshly juiced pear. The real highlight of this beer is the mouthfeel. It's what makes this example unique. Without a doubt this hefe' has the thickest, heaviest, creamiest, most luxurious feel I've ever experienced for the style. This mouthfeel belongs on an Imperial Stout! Extremely tasty and drinkable, a treat and unique experience. I am lucky to have this available on tap nearby and will have this one frequently from this point on.

Multiple samples at 2009 GABF.

With all the extreme beer available at the GABF, this was the only hefe I tried. It's reputation as one of the world's best is deserved, this is fantastic beer.

The wheat produces a crackery grain flavor that pairs with the typical banana and a mild clove note. This beer may not wow some people, but anyone that has experienced a selection of top-notch hefes will know right away that this is no ordinary beer.

There is just something about it, those wheat, banana, and clove flavors are simply amazing. Perhaps the flavors are just a bit brighter or deeper, maybe it is the creamy smooth body, but I can't name a better American made Hefeweizen and I would be hard pressed to name a better German take on the style...ok, maybe Weihenstephaner, but its close.

Now they just need to bottle more of it and start shipping cases to Denver!

Had on tap at The Flying Saucer in Garland, TX...

Arrives a cloudy pale yellowish orange with a 3 inch head... This looks stupidly delicious...

The aromas on this are ridiculous... Its the best hefe smell x2... Loaded with wheaty clove-y banana-y goodness.. Its pungent and sweet and delicious smelling...

What a delightful mixture of flavors this brew brings forth...I could drink this one after another on a hot summer night... Its ridiculously tasty...spot on for the hefe style...

Finally got to try this right off the tap and it was worth it... Delicious...

Two large draft samples at GABF 2009.

A - Pours a great slightly hazy straw color with a medium-sized creamy white head and solid lacing.

S - Aroma is banana, clove, wheat, and yeast. Perfectly to style.

T - Long-lasting and full flavor of sweet pale malt and wheat, banana, clove, spice, and yeast.

M - Palate is medium-light and fairly crisp. Refreshing.

D - About as high as it gets. This is a great, spot-on example of the hefeweizen style.

On tap the Flying Saucer in Austin, courtesy of a very generous ride from MiguelMandingo. Thanks Mike.

A: Pours a cloudy body the color of grapefruit juice. I _love_ cloudy bodies in hefs. A finger of off-white head recedes into a light film on the brew, and leaves some streaks down the glass. I'd love some more suds, but it's hard to complain about the immensely milky body.

S: Straw/grain, cloves, banana, pears, bubblegum, and light yeast. Balanced.

T: Follows the nose very well. A straw-grain flavor, reminding me at times of hay and crackers, with some clove bite up front. Banana and pear are restrained at first, but as the beer warms, they really open up and give the beer a nice roundedness. Bubblegum underneath with light yeast in the finish. A crisp ending that accentuates the tartness, but there is a lightly lingering earthy hop bitterness that I didn't pick up on in the smell or main flavor. What's nice is that the beer is remarkably tasty without having any one flavor dominate; it is balanced and flows over the tongue with ease.

M: Light-bodied, medium-high carbonation. Crisp without being too biting. The finish is slightly dry, which works very well with the crispness.

D: Not the absolute best hef I have ever had -- I still give that honor to New Glarus -- but this is a great example of the style.

Best Hefe in Texas!

A: Cloudy dry wheat appearance with a creamy two-finger head that leaves deliciously sticky lace behind as a memory of beer that I have already enjoyed.

S: Banana bread, cloves, and yeast. A lasting tropical tartness rounds out the aroma to bring a smell that is most pleasing.

T: A chorus of sweet banana, clove spice, yeasty goodness, and bitter hop finish create a flavor profile that is flat out amazing. This is an amazing beer.

M: Medium body. Appropriate pop to the carbonation for style.

D: Best damn hefe you will find. End of discussion.

Was fortunate enough to have this while in Texas recently. Enjoyed at the Flying Saucer in Houston..

Fluffy wispy white head rises above the hazy golden colored beer. Some slight orange tones. A nice color. Decent retention and lacing.

Aroma is very fresh, very bready and spot on for the style. Ripe banana, spices, yeasty goodness. Some light clove.

Silky smooth is the first thing that comes to mind. Really almost creamy. A good amount of depth and a wonderful banana bread flavor. Excellent depth to the spice. Decent little beer. There is almost a vanilla quality that comes with the creaminess.

Quite drinkable and perfect for a hot Texas day. I can see why this is so popular.

Nice representation of the style.

I had this on a recent trip to Austin. It was a very light straw color with a very small head. The smell was a sweetness that reminded me of a fruit plate. Banana's, melon, and clove. Very nice! The taste was the same as the nose. Very great balance all the way around. This was a very drinkable beer on a hot Texas day and anywhere else too. I could enjoy alot of these!

One of the great pleasures of my trip to Austin. On a side note the brewery tour was nice. Only down side was I was with 11 guys for a bachelor party. Review from tap at the Alamo Draft House.

A: The cloudiest heff that I have ever had the pleasure to see. A nice bright golden color with some yeast floating around in the glass. Decent amount of head for the style as well.

S: Spot on. Tons of banana and clove. The wheat is there and is fairly strong as well. A touch of bubblegum in the finish.

T: God damn this is nice. Everything you want in perfect balance. The wheat and the yeast. Not too much banana not too much clove.

M: It was a little thick and stuck to my throat on the way down. While a little bit off for the style I found it enjoyable.

D: I am pleased to say I drank the shit out of the beer while in Austin. Just a great beer. I would session this then stab you to get some more. The BEST example of the style I have ever had. Have not been to Germany yet though....

On tap at the Flying Saucer / Fort Worht. Cloudy and bubbly. Thick head that sticks to the sides. Straw yellow. Banana in the nose, some cloves too. A bit of peppery spiciness too. Taste is similiar to the smell, but more banana on the tongue then in the nose. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. This beer is absolutely delicious.

On tap at the Ginger Man in Fort Worth. Poured into a pint glass. No abv ino is given.

A-Pours a hazy straw yellow with a one finger white head that quickly dissolves into a small frothy ring that sticks around.

S-Clove is by far the most dominant smell hitting my nose. The yeast used in the beer is also very prevalent. Banana and coriander are also being picked up.

T-Lots of banana and wheat hit upfront. The other spices hit in the back of the mouth. It has a really nice peppery taste and a nice citrus-like tartness.

M-Medium bodied and smooth. It is very crisp and refrehing.

D-The perfect beer for sipping outside. I could easily knock back a bunch of these.

I was glad I finally got to try this beer and it deserves the praise it gets as the best hefe in the US.

Ill start off by saying that I am happy to live in Austin and have this beer on tap in the area.

A: Looks like any good hefe, cloudy. It looks good.

S: Smells slightly fruity, like most hefes.

T: Really surprisingly good for an American hefe. You usually do not get ones this good out of breweries in Texas, and I was really impressed by it (along with most people on BA).

M: Smooth

D: Easy drinkability - an easy beer to have on any day. Just wish it was sold in bottles as well....

Presentation: Poured from draft tap to a nonic style pint glass.

A: This beer pours a perfect 2 finger head without the bartender even trying. It is golden, orange, and hazy in appearance. Probably the best I've ever seen a hefeweizen look. Lots of nice carbonation and bubbles pouring from the bottom of this one. The only thing that would have made it any better would have been more lacing on the glass. Good, but not perfect.

S: Lots of lemon zest as well as other citrus in the nose. The clove is very present. Some people have said banana is very forward in this one. While it is there it's certainly not standing out like in Aventinus, Weihenstephaner Hefe, or others which are highly known for that banana signature. I sometimes find that off-putting so for me this one smells exceptional. Clean, crisp, tart, citrusy, clove spiciness, and subdued banana.

T: Wow. That was my impression on first tasting this. I was driving in the car thinking of how to describe this one today and the analogy came to me. It's like listening to a well-recorded piece of music on a VERY good speaker. All of the elements are there, perfectly balanced and none outshining the others. This hefe is tart like a Schneider in the perfect way, spicy and mild notes of banana like a Weihenstephaner, and has the great citrus notes like Julius Echter. For me this is the perfect hefeweizen. It was just kegged yesterday so it was tapped the same day I had it and god it's good. Even the foam on top tasted amazing. Normally I just try to drink through most of the foam, but on this one I wanted to actually ingest it.

M: Perfectly carbonated, meaning there was a lot of it. It's slick and oily (good for me), slightly creamy, nicely carbonated, and awesome. If it was a little creamier in the mouth it would be a 5.0.

D: Absolutely off the charts. I think I could drink more of this particular beer than any beer I've ever sampled. I tend to drink multiple beers in a given evening, but when this is available I will drink it all night and not be upset about it in the least. If I could give this a higher score it would get it.

When people talk about their favorite beers you often don't know what they mean or what their perspective is. Maybe they've only tried 10 different beers in their life. Compared to other BA's I've had a relatively small amount (probably 250 different beers) but this is one that absolutely lives up to the hype. It's tart, citrusy, has a slight wheat backbone so as not to be heavy, banana, clove, spice, perfect carbonation, smells delicious, looks great. There is no one area where this beer falters. Could it be improved? Maybe. For me this is a top 3 beer without question. I will be having more of this while it's available on draft in Dallas.

Poured a cloudy yellowish orange with no noticeable head. There was a nice bread yeasty, banana, clove aroma. The flavors in this beers are perfectly balanced and delicious. A clove, banana, yeast flavor that mixes very well with a citrusy flavor. The finish is smooth clean and crisp and slightly bitter due to the sweet lemony citrus flavor. Incredible drinkability. I was sitting out in the beergarden, 80 degrees and the sun shining. It was the perfect beer for that occasion.

Appearance: A soft and nearly opaque honey-pale-straw-yellow pour with almost no head, looks raw, cloudy, unfiltered, and delicious.

Smell: Ample yeast, cloves, grass, banana, wheat

Taste: Grain, yeast, bread, Banana in a big way, citrus, grass, banana, pineapple, touch of sweetness and orange

Mouthfeel: Nice full texture, better than any other hefe.

Drinkability: Perfect in this regard, it disappears. All the elements come together perfectly in this one, particularly outside in the Austin, TX heat.

Had this beer and a lunch for FREE @ a SXSW event in Austin. The unfortunate part about the beer being free is that it wasn't poured into glass, but rather plastic.

A: Small 1 cm head, unfiltered hazy banana bread color, with dec lace.

S: Sweet and wheaty, the turd also dropped a lemon wedge on the side, so a lot of lemon zest.

T: Very clean and not extremely overpoweringly sweet. This is great, since a Hefeweizen isn't exactly my style of choice, but seemed perfect for a 80 degree Texas day. A nice slice of clovey bitterness.

M:Medium bodied, with good balance of carbonation.

D: I could drink a few of these, the number I would want to drink would increase as the temperatures started rising. Great summer beer, too bad it's only available on tap. You would think this precious swill would get bottled?

I had this on tap at the Flying Saucer in Houston. The beer was hazy pale yellow color with a poofy head. The smell is classic hefeweizen, bananas and cloves. Same with the taste, a little grainy but not as lactosy as many German hefes seem. The mouthfeel is thick and sort of creamy but light enough to keep from being bloating.

This beer's had a top spot on the site for a long time but wasn't exactly a "quest" beer for me. Nonetheless I was glad to find it on tap while in town.

I've had this on-tap three times since moving to Austin and will review the most recent occasion, at Malagas Tapas and Bar on Saturday night.

Served a hazy, hefe yellow-orange in a pint glass with about a finger of pillowy white head. As others have noted, the color gradually changes from the top of the glass to the bottom. I felt this serving came a little colder than I would've preferred, and the rich aroma of bananas, clove, and citrus took a while to come out.

The pleasant smell of this beer is nothing compared to its taste, however. The banana and citrus--I got more lemon than in the past, and still took in plenty of orange--were up front, and the clove is deliciously spicy. An overall bubble gum flavor is present, particularly when the beer is colder.

Mouthfeel is creamy and full, no watered-down domestic hefe here. I'd love to sit down for a few of these, and hope to in the months to come.

Had this on tap last night. This is my favorite session beer and the best hefeweizen I have had in the US by far. Simply amazing.
Pours light brown very cloudy with a small bit of foam.
Aroma: A bit of clove combined with a delicate floral scent.
Taste: cloves, bready, banana, slight amount of hops.
Mouthfeel: chewy, a little sweet. There's some graininess to this beer. How do they do that? The incredible mouthfeel of this sets this hefe apart from all the others.
drinkability: very refreshing beer. Super drinkable. Good year around.

This is the only beer I have gave a perfect score so far and it deserves it.

Served on tap with a lemon poured into a pint glass.

A- Pale yellow coloring with not much head.

S- Had a somewhat lemon, citrus smell to it even before I put the lemon in it.

T- Not the best of this type I have ever had. A little too bitter, just not really a good blend here. Not as overpowering as a lot of hefeweizen's.

M- A little bitter, perhaps too much of a citrus taste.

D- Drinkable than a lot of beers of this time, but I wouldn't have more than 3 in a sitting.
