Reviewed from notes. Growler shared.

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow under a half-inch thick white head which fades to the rim slowly and leaves spotty lace.

N: Pungent banana esters, wheat grains, yeast, clove, fruity, mild earth.

T: Follows nose with mild citrus overtones.

M: Light body and medium carbonation. Creamy, fruity and wheaty finish.

O: Solid and well balanced. Would definitely have again.

I have had this delicious brew many times around town and take for granted that we have a world class hefeweizen here in Austin. The beer poured an opaque golden yellow with an enormous fluffy white head. The aroma was of bananas, cloves and a fruity spice that hit the perfect hefe tones. The taste was classic Hefe with bold bubblegum, banana, clove and spices that floated on a thick and creamy body with zero bitterness. The Live Oak Hefe is so thick, creamy and smooth its like drinking a beer milkshake. The note perfect hefeweizen flavors were bold and dominate while maintaining a very refreshing and drinkable brew. I can easily drink pint after pint of this on a hot day in Texas. It easily stands up to and exceeds its German counterparts and I would take it over just about any classic German Hefe.

Growler driven across three states, in my glass within 48 hrs.

Pours like a wheat. Hazy, pale golden with fluffy white head that lingers quite nicely. Nice carbonation out of the growler.

Aroma is clove, banana, doughy yeast, tropical bubblegum, banana custard, creamy, and wheaty. One of the best smelling hef's or wheat's I've come across. No joke.

Then I taste this bitch. Damn is this creamy. One of the creamiest beers I've had and that's saying a lot given all the milk and oatmeal stouts I've had. But more on that when I get to the mouthfeel. Flavors are accentuated and potent, very much Americanized yet also traditional. Big banana, clove, banana/tropical bubblegum, cream of wheat, papaya, and a touch of nutmeg. I've had hef's that display that bubblegum like character but this takes it to a whole other level.

Mouthfeel is where this shines even more. Super creamy, do I detect oats? Will have to read up and see. Heavier side of light body, slightly above medium carbonation, and clean fruity, spicy finish. But did I mention it's creamy? Wow, floats on the tongue.

I have to give a big thanks to Isaac, I guy I'd never met before, who brought this down as an extra as part of a big trade. This lives up to the hype and in my case exceeds it. This has sparked a new passion in my beer life. Sad that this is not available locally. A masterfully brewed hefeweizen. A beer not to be missed if in Texas.

Bottled 3/29, so almost a week old. Mini pint glass.

A: Pours a cloudy straw color with two fingers of quickly dissipating white head, leaving a thin collar for the remainder of the glass. No lacing, OK retention.

S: Sweetish malt, a subtle undertone of banana frosting, and light spice in the background.

T: Similar, with clove and some more grainy wheat and yeast coming through. A touch of citrus imparts some juicyness. Flavors are well integrated, making this highly drinkable.

M: Creamy texture, medium body and medium-light carbonation.

O: Deservedly a top-rated hefe. Highly drinkable, extremely well balanced flavors.

Poured an amazing hazy yellow color with aromas of light banana, clove, light bubble gum, and some light spice. Flavors are a nice mix of all the aromas, light creaminess to it. Enjoyed this beer by the pool, and it was amazing. I have been looking for this beer for a while, and it was well worth the wait.

A: Straw yellow-golden with a clean white head. Very opaque.

S: Lemon, straw, banana, and clove.

T: Similar- straw, banana, clove spice, lemon, some grassy notes, ripe citrus fruits.

M: Medium with that awesome hefe light-heaviness (if that makes sense).

O: A good beer! Not the best hefeweizen I've ever had, but damn near up there.

A: Bright golden color, semi filtered. Nice even lace.

S: A soft smooth dose of banana bread, cloves and faint fruitiness, classic hefe without being overwhelming

T: Best hefe I've had, and I spent 3 years in Germany! (Of course, that has been a long time ago...) ... all the classic required flavors (banana, bread, light sweetness, clove-spice) are here and it's extremely clean. Very drinkable and refreshing.

M: Medium body with a crisp clean finish

Overall, an excellent Hefe, Just what you need in 110 degree summers!

Served on tap into a shaker glass.

A- Poured a hazy and bright golden color with frothy white head that left chunky lace.

S- Big pear, bubblegum, clove, citrusy, and banana notes in the aroma. A big juicy fruitiness and some astringency in the aroma.

T- Big tangy banana, juicy citrusy notes, bubblegum, clove, and light pear notes. Very juicy.

M- Prickly carbonation, very smooth, medium body, dry, and refreshing.

O- This is a world class and full-flavored hefeweizen. I am very impressed and this is among the most complex and flavorful hefeweizens I have ever had as someone who loves the style.

S-smell of banana and cloves hits you right away
T-the taste is similar to the smell expect with some wheat
M-light body and a smooth thru and thru
This a great hefeweizen especially for a Austin's summers.

Poured into a wheat glass from a growler. The pale, cloudy golden body is topped by a thick, three inch white head that crowns over the top of the glass, only slowly diminishing over time. The head is clearly supported by a lot of active carbonation.

The aroma is a spicy, phenolic aroma, filled with notes of clove and banana. Really fresh smelling. Quite perfect and on course for the traditional style. Potent as well, so this gets the highest markings.

This hefe has a gentle, soft medium to light body, with a perfect amount of carbonation for the style. It's almost to the point of being creamy. There are flavors of sweet wheat, and just similar touches of clove and banana in the aftertaste and exhale. But the finish is on the drier side, with little to no residual sweetness. Bitterness is extremely low, and there is almost no hop presence at all in this beer. I can't say enough about the excellent flavor here. So sweet, yet without the sugar. Delicious flavor of the Bavarian Hefe yeast and fresh wheat mixed together.

Fantastic beer all around. So damn drinkable, and so on point with the style that I find it hard to believe that they don't win every GABF year. Very impressed with this, and to be sure, it even exceeds what many German breweries are putting out there. Well worth seeking out!!

On draught at Flying Saucer Sugarland, Tx

A – Very hazy straw color with light head that dissipated quickly.
S – Banana and bready nose.
T – Great big banana flavor on the front with a bready middle tongue with nice mild clove aftertaste.
M - Medium Body, Slight to Moderately Carbonation, my friends commented that it was fluffy, and it had a nice crisp finish.
O – Have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of hefe’s, but this one has me re-thinking the style and I appreciate and love this one for sure. I would highly recommend and I will be looking to enjoy this more often.

This beer truly changed my beer drinking life. Prior to my move to Austin I was not a hefe guy. I didn't like wheat beers at all really but the Live Oak Hefe, well that and the 100 degree Texas heat, turned it all around.

One of the first episodes of Locapour features the Live Oak Hefe: http://locapour.tv/austin/liveoakhefeweizen

As you'll see the beer's color is a work of art. The smell is heavenly and the taste is unmistakable. I highly recommend you try it.

Poured into Lagunitas Pint
Growler was shipped from Dallas, Texas...leaked about 1/5 contents during shipping

A - Yellow, Hazy, almost no head when poured, slight white ring persistent. This Growler leaked more than I thought and I attribute the lack of head to the loss of carbonation during shipping.

S - Medium Clove on the front end, moderate lemony grassy notes towards middle and slight banana on the back end.

T - Med-High Banana take over the palate and leaves a slight clove aftertaste, but still dominated by bananas. There is a flash of medium sweet tartness as you swallow that compliment all the flavors present. Yeast is amazing and well-fermented. Complex flavors dance all over the palate and finishes moderately dry, but very clean.

M - Medium Body, Slight to Moderately Carbonation, Slightly creamy, Very Crisp Finish.

O - Not a fan of Hefeweizens at all, but find myself in love with this one. Absolutely the best Hefeweizen I have tasted and needs to be on your must try list if you have yet to partake. You will not be disappointed.

Poures at Old School in Austin. Hazy bright yellow with a small head. Wheaty, yeasty, lemony banana aroma. Crisp banana yeast with serious sweetness and lots of body for the style. Very flavorful hefe. Medium mouthfeel with heavy carbonation that lightens up the brew nicely. Refreshing and very good brew. Impressed that they can do a German style so nicely out in Texas.

On tap at Umami Mia's Pizzeria Austin TX. Menu said 12 IBU. Nice outdoor patio watching the wierdos go by on Barton Springs Road. Excellent pizza.

A: Pint glass, not a lot of head when I got it, ring around the edge persisted. Hazy yellow.

S: Classic hefe sweet banana.

T: Malty banana bread like.

M: Smooth and slightly syrupy in a hefe-like way.

O: 2nd best hefe I've had. Excellent pizza beer. Unless I'm really in the mood for something else I'll get this when I go back. Wondering if it would be even better in the bottle.

Had this one on tap for the first time, and I've been dying to try this for a while.

A- Cloudy yellow color, definitely cloudy. Nice frothy head.

S- Sweet bananas, very little clove, nice lemon and grassy notes.

T- This shit is BANANAS "B-A-N-A-N-A-S" haha! Biggest banana bomb I've ever tasted. So rich and sweet. There's a little clove present, and it finishes with a little lemon tingle.

M- Dang this beer feels so creamy and frothy, it's awesome and so refreshing.

O- If I only had one beer wish, I might just use it by asking for this to be sold in cans at my grocery store. My fridge would be stocked up all year long! I don't think I could get tired of this beer. It's friggin amazing!

Doom glass

***900th BA review***, seems fitting to tick off another Top 250 brew

A: Pours hazy bright yellow color. Really pretty looking brew for the spring and summer. Full two fingers fluffy white head. Still carbonated, despite the leaking growler. Leaving some lacing bits on the glass.

S: On the nose, really bright banana character. Clove. Bright citrus. Hops. Really nice wheat smells. Fabulous.

T: Big banana and citrus up front. It's more pronounced than any other Hefe I have ever had. You get some clove and spice character in the mid-palate. Those yeasty esters. Nice crisp and clean finish. Deliciously refreshing.

M: Light medium bodied due to the wheat additions.

Body is a very cloudy, very yellow wheaty color, almost seems to glow; looks amazing. The head is pretty small for a hefe but sticks around for a while, and the smaller head is probably due to being in a growler a few days anyway. (EDIT: I gave a much more aggressive pour for my second glass and the head was a lot better.)

Smell is intense yeast, lots of sweet banana, cloves and light peppery spice. Got to be the sweetest most intense nose I've smelled on a hefeweizen.

And the taste is just as good or better. So much banana! So much yeast. Just a reall intense and delicious wheat character, mild pepper and clove and mild tartness to provide balance. Truly delicious.

Mouthfeel is incredibly creamy, very well carbed, very full and rich body. Excellent.

This is definitely the best hefeweizen I've had. I was 't sure what to expect or what was supposed to make this beer exceptional but now I get it; it's really a classic hefe taste but just so intense and perfectly executed. Heavy on the sweetness and banana, light on the spice and tartness. Fantastic beer.

Got in a growler thanks to Tofuspeedstar. Been wanting to try this for a while.

A-completely unfiltered. Opaque. Amber with a 2 finger fluffy white head. I've had other unfiltered hefe's but this one looked best from all I've tried. Lots of carbonation which was expected.

S-bananas, cloves, some pepper, citrus notes. Some wheat bread notes. Yeast tartness.

T-just like the smell. But better. More citrus than the smell, tad bit less banana. Nice clove and wheat flavor. Tart yeast balances it all out. Completely refreshing. Perfect beer

M-this is the only time I wish it was 90 degrees outside. The mouthfeel is perfect. So light and refreshing. Perfect carbonation. This in the middle of summer would be perfect.

O-my wallet is thankful this isn't available to me. I'd buy it year round. I drank a 32 oz growler way too quick. Sessionable as hell and just perfect. This may be the best beer to come out of Texas.

Served from a growler into a Newport Storm pint. Thanks channels321!

Appearance- Pretty typical unfiltered heffe. Cloudy yellow with thin white head.

Smell- Spicey. Coriander, banana, lemon, wheat bread, grassy floralness. Again fairly typical of the style.

Taste- Lemon, yeasty bread, funky earthyness, green apples. Very crisp and refreshing.

Mouthfeel- Nicely carbonated. Smooth, crisp, clean. Would be great on a hot summer day.

Overall- This is a damn fine Heffe. Not a fan of the style normally, but this sets the standards for now on.

DanzBorin was generous enough to send this bad boy up to me! Thanks man!!

Poured out as a beautiful hazy golden color with a fluffy white head on top. The retention is very good with a minimal lacing. The smell of the beer is very fresh very inviting with some soft banana aromas. The taste is soft also, excellent flavors of wheat and banana, the clove is hidden which is interesting. The mouthfeel is very smooth also, almost creamy. Overall this was a killer beer. Really easy and refreshing. Very glad I got to try it.

I only got to sample 5oz of this stuff as it came as part of a flight of 5 Texas beers for $10. On tap at the Flyinhg Saucer Beer Emporium in downtown Houston, Texas.

The beer poured a hazy gold color typical for a hefe. Despite the small sample, the beer made a 2-finger fluffdy white head with good retention but little lacing.

The beer smelled like bubble gum.

Nice banana/clove flavor but with some other citrusy flavors as well - orange and lemon. Both sweet and tangy with light wheat malt and yeasy flavor.

Medium bodied with fairly high prickly carbonation.

This is a very good hefe. If I see it again, I'll be sure to order a full glass.

Enjoyed this HefeWeizen in downtown Austin....straight from the tap into a pint glass.

A - Beautiful; opaque; yellow/white fluffy look; limited head off the pour but nice, white, lacy clouds on the edge of the glass throughout. A gorgeous looking beer....

S - Banana, citrus, wheat, pleasurable smell.

T - Just like it smells; banana, wheat, oak, citrus. A very nice taste...

M - Slightly carbonated but still very smooth on the palate; a little bit of a bite that fades quickly.

Overall - Really enjoyed this beer; a nice, smooth hefe; would definitely have this one again.

12 oz bottle from brewer via my friend Dave. Hazy, pale yellow with a good head and okay retention.

Smells great. Tastes great too. Very good balance of banana and clove flavors along with malt. Not too sweet at all which is a big plus.

Very solid Hefeweizen. Used to drink the hell out of them back in the day so it was nice to take me back down memory lane.
Seek it out!

Big thanks to Crusian for this Texas treat, finally get to enjoy it, and with a homebrew partner too. From notes.

Beautiful look, like, take a picture, dark straw in color, rocky 3 finger white foam head, and stupid pillows of lace.

Smell is sweet bready wheat and delicious tart yeast, a hint of lemon, spice, a bit of banana too, Like perfume, man, really tasty here for real.

Man, the taste is somewhat different than the aroma hints. It is less spicy but holds hints of cloves, less banana but it is in there, the grain takes on a dimension of delcious, combined with the tart of the yeast, that is just so yummy I can't exaggerate. Most complex of style? No. Most full flavored of style? No. Could I drink this in preference to all I've tried? Yes, I wish I had a place to get this, it would be in the fridge always.

Mouthfeel is the shining star here, for refreshing, at the end of day, is what this style is about, and this is as refreshing a hefe as I've had. I have a feeling it lost a bit of carb on the road to me, but other wise this is perfect, the archetype, for clean flavors in a perfect viscosity and balance.

It would be nice to think I may yet try a better one than this. "Til then hope to taste this one again. Highest recommend. YOu lucky Tex. folk who can get this regularly. What a great beer.
