A great beer, poured draft into a shaker pint with a white head and nice lacing. The smell was pungent and floral. The taste was fresh and crisp. Some citrus and a nice slightly spicy bite. I really enjoyed it but had to leave town to find it! It was a very nice cap on a great day I spent with my daughter! This beer will be associated with a wonderful memory for me. It seems appropriate!

A: pours a frothy, thick white head with a hazy dark golden yellow color to the body
S: banana, bubble gum jump out, pear, clove, lemon, grass
T: bubble gum, stone fruit, lemon, pepper, hay, biscuit, light, earthy/herbal hops
M: light, soft mouthfeel with slight carbonation
O: delicious and refreshing hef. I would love to have this again. Up there with Weihenstephaner for my favorite hefeweizen.

Hazy, well carbed, banana/clove flavors integrated well. Not overly yeasty. Finishes clean and delicious. Best Hefe in all the land? I don't know, I'm not qualified to answer that. I would drink the shit out of this everyday if I could though.

Perfect example of the style and the best American Hefeweizen. Possibly the best American take on a German style period. Aromatic and perfectly balanced banana and clove notes. I routinely make a 4 hour trek to Texas just to have this on tap.

One of the best beers I've ever had. Everything you want in a solid hefeweizen; smooth, iconic golden haze, great banana and clove taste and smell, and an alcohol content that quickly catches up with you. I assume they don't bottle it to preserve the flavor but it ia absolutely worth going out for. This will always be in my top 3.

On tap at Cuvee Coffee in Austin.

Served in a nonic pint.

Cloudy golden body with a brown hue. Surging carbonation. Persistent pale white head that becomes a film over the body. 5

Banana and clove dominate the nose with a touch of sweetness. Wheat is apparent too. 4.25

Surprised by how pronounced the clove flavor is here. Banana follows and a nutty, sweet malt flavor emerges. Vanilla on the finish is an excellent contribution. 4.25

Medium-body, some spice from the clove, medium carbonation that bubbles more on the finish, and a lingering dry feel. 4.25

Very good brew. Drinks well at breakfast post coffee.

Light orangish color, with very faint hints of pink. This was a crisp and refreshing beer, with nice carbonation. One of the highlights on a trip to Austin and looking forward to having again!

This is my favorite American hefeweizen. It is a poster child for the style. It pours a cloudy pale yellow with a fluffy white head. It hit all the right aroma and flavor notes you expect from a hefe. It's not just one of my favorite local beers, it's one of my favorite beers period.

Cloudy and yellow with a nice head for a bar-served glass. Banana clove and yeast bring the aroma and flavors around town... very well thank you. A beer that when I finally had it, pretty much lived up to the hype. Definitely a winner here, must try.

Don't know what to say really other than this beer is perfect. Trying to describe its perfection would be a futile exercise. Just know that this is the best beer in the world of this style and one that I would drink everyday for the rest of my life. One of my all-time favorites.

On tap into a hefeweizen glass at the Meddlesome Moth in Dallas, Texas. Reviewed from notes dated June 10, 2015.

A-The beer is very cloudy and very light in color, even for a hefe. It almost looks like a white IPA. The head on my beer is too short, about a finger, but that may be the server and not the beer. Retention is good, but not great.

S-The aroma is slightly odd with less wheat and lactic flavors that many beers of this style. There is almost a malted aroma here that I was not anticipating. The typical banana/clove profile is here and is pretty well done, but I am not getting much complexity.

T-The taste is better than the smell with more fruit and interesting flavors. I get some lemon, orange, and the banana/clove flavors you would expect. The lightly tart, lactic flavors build on my palate as the beer warms.

M-The body is nice and light with a bit more crispness than many of the style.

O-This is pretty good American hefeweizen, but I was hoping for GREAT one, and this beer just doesn't compare to German variants. On the one hand, this beer is less spicy and yeasty than I would expect, but on the other hand, it reminds me more of a spiced Belgian wit than a hefeweizen. I dunno, I may have to revisit this one.

On tap at The Hay Merchant (Houston), served in a 20 oz Weizen glass. Hazy, cloudy yellow with a good head of white foam. Citrus, wheat and slight yeast spice on the nose. Well balanced flavor: typical clove and banana are present but only just enough, citrus, bread, spicy yeast and hop bitterness all mingle well. Lively carbonation with a light to medium body. Very drinkable, well balanced; a good representation of the style.

Big thanks to Jrh66182 for sending a 32oz growler my way so i can finally try this brew! enjoyed from a block 15 hefe glass. growler filled 4 days ago.

a - brew pours a cloudy but transparent straw yellow. nice frothy hefe head that didn't hang too long but left a thick skin of bubbles on the surface. spotty lace adorned the glass as i sipped.

s - nose is big time bananas and clove. fluffy, vanilla like, candy...sweet but not too sweet. just right sweet.

t/m/o - wow, this exceeded my expectations. i am not wild about hefes but can dig a good one every now and then when i'm in the mood, but this beer i can drink all of the time. what i don't love about the style is that it tends to be too sweet for me after a half a glass, but the balance of sweetness and flavors is really nice. like banana bread in a glass. top hefe for sure. really enjoyed this beer!

Taste - Wheat. Doughy malts. Spice builds quickly. Intense phenolic spice. More clove than banana.

Mouthfeel - Well carbonated. Medium body.

Overall - Well made, but really spicy.

World class! A great Hefe in the Bavarian tradition. My only critique of this beer is it is not available in most locations outside of Texas and it is not bottled and exported. When I visit Austin I drink nothing else...yeah, it's that good.

My first visit to Texas and a keg of this great beer in my friends back yard for a wedding equals pure awesomness! Hazy yellow color with a full two fingers of fluffy white foam. Great aroma of banana with plenty of biscuit character to level it out. Creamy smooth mouthfeel here as well.

famous for a reason, this is perhaps the best hefeweizen made on american soil, and if it isnt, i want to taste whats better. its so light and flavorful, truly an all day drinker, and quite authentic too. its super light in color, almost watery looking yellow, and with a smaller head than the german ones that froth all down the edges of the glass, but by no means flat. the nose is so much more than banana clove, although thats definitely going on here. the wheat malt is aromatic and flavorful for its real pale cloudy color, and the fruit of the yeast goes well beyond banana to pear and light green apple, even green grape. the spice aspect is lesser, more of a general allspice thing rather than clove, which works well for me, it keeps it light. carbonation is ample, and the finish is clean for how fruity the yeast is. i could drink ten or more of these and like each one just as much. maybe just a bit light in body for me, could use a touch more meat, but its hard to think about changing anything here. who says old world styles dont rank anymore? this is killer!

Thanks to Twiggamortis420 for the chance to try this. Split the growler with 64oz growler.

Appearance: Hazy golden yellow with a fluffy bright-white head. Drops to a small creamy collar with a vague notion of a cap. Slight hint of lacing. Moderate carbonation on the pour.

Smell: Ripe banana and a soft clove spice. Nice push of wheat over the top with a light bready malt. Some bubblegum. Pale malt sweetness. Fresh bubblegum on the back of the sip as it warms. A touch of mint and some woody elements. Some bread crust with touch of Belgian yeast. Mild fruity esters, some pear and apple with a touch of pineapple. A touch of lime and lemon. Some zest. Fruity with a ton of wheat. Definitely American.

Taste: Banana, clove, and a ton of bubblegum. Wheat adds a bit of a tart edge. Slightly lactic with lemon and lime. Slightly bready with some solid pale malt sweetness. Fresh pear and apple. Loads of pineapple. Some mild earthy elements coupled with a touch of wood. Slight tart edge mixed with a clean light malt profile. Super clean and hits where it should for the American style.

Mouthfeel: Medium almost light body with a moderate carbonation. Super clean. Hits the spot.

Overall: America, we do things right.

This is a solid version of the American take on the style. Slightly tart and wheaty. This is worth drinking again and again.

Consumed 9/27/14

Big cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this - this has lingered for quite some time on my wants

A: Lightly cloudy, a lovely orange-gold color - pours with a medium-sized white head, leaves some lacing but not much - forgivable considering this is a growler pour

S: Seriously charming with a decidedly lovely amount of yeast - some really nice fruity esters - nice amount of banana, clove, and light fruits - some nice pale and wheat malts - ripe and flowery - some sweetness and bubblegum, but not too much, nicely balanced

T: Incredibly balanced with stupid level of drinkability - a lovely combination of big hefeweizen yeast and malts - ripe banana, banana peel, fruity but also dry - pale malts, pale grains, with a big amount of wheat - extremely balanced with some nice dryness

M: Medium body, nicely carbonated, smooth, finishes with a nice level of carbonation

O: Worth the wait

This beer has quite the reputation, and I think it actually lived up to it. It has a ton of flavors that scream "Hefeweizen," which are really charming, and it's also unexpectedly drinkable. Finishing this growler will not be a challenge.

This is the premier American Hefeweizen, no one else comes close. The perfect beer for a hot Texas summer day. While the style is down, this is the cream of the crop.

This beer is one of the best hefeweizen's out there. And it's right up the road in Austin! A real mouthfull of thick sweetness, but not too malty. A great summer beer on a hot day in Texas. It's too bad they don't put this in bottles or I would drink a lot more of it.
