Multiple samples at 2009 GABF.

With all the extreme beer available at the GABF, this was the only hefe I tried. It's reputation as one of the world's best is deserved, this is fantastic beer.

The wheat produces a crackery grain flavor that pairs with the typical banana and a mild clove note. This beer may not wow some people, but anyone that has experienced a selection of top-notch hefes will know right away that this is no ordinary beer.

There is just something about it, those wheat, banana, and clove flavors are simply amazing. Perhaps the flavors are just a bit brighter or deeper, maybe it is the creamy smooth body, but I can't name a better American made Hefeweizen and I would be hard pressed to name a better German take on the style...ok, maybe Weihenstephaner, but its close.

Now they just need to bottle more of it and start shipping cases to Denver!

thanks to barefootbrewer for a bottle of this fine brew! Ordinarily I don't condone the bottling of growler and on tap only brews but my hats off on to the original bottler of this fine brew. The last time I had a hefe this good it was carried off a plane from germany!

A - Hazy golden yellow color with a solid white head

S - citrus, clove, banana, wheat and bready malts

T - similar to the nose but so lively, so well balanced it's hard to justify in words.

M - medium bodied, nicely carbonated, crisp zesty finish

D - yes sir, may I have another? I really need to get a growler of this shipped to me so I can enjoy this with my friends!

A rare and tasty thanks to Deniz(JDV).

Poured from a growler into my Duvel glass. A solid foamy two fingers of off white head forms and has solid retention. Leaves some scattered lace. Body is a honey golden wheat in color. Nose has a complex mix of silky wheat, honeysuckle, orange zest and maybe soft hops. As you take first sip the smooth almost glazing silkyness is amazing. Inner orange skin and anise are up front but signs of fuzzy spice are all oner the middle of the palate. Clean and refreshing while being so unique and complex throughout. An almost flowery mouthfeel is left after the dusty spice profile. The drinkability of this brew couldnt be any better.

Cirrus cloud pillowy head - sort of how the clouds would look in an airplane above them; dissipates moderately. Light, cloudy, white grapefruit color

Bountiful banana ester; lots of coriander and orange zest

Indescribably multidimensional for style - where did that slight smoky flavor come from? Carbonation helps tingle out the banana, orange, grapefruit and yeast

Little bit of a carbonation burn - clean and complex

I could drink this all day long - great stuff.

Thanks JDV for the opportunity to try this one also my first growler ever. Might as well start of with one of the best

Growler poured into my Ayinger Weizen Glass produced a good two fingers worth of head that settled down to a nice layer of lace on top of a cloudy apricot colored body It is a gorgeous looking Hefeweizen I wouldn't believe that a growler would keep this much carbonation

Aromas on this one is striking as well, you get wonderful banana bread in a glass type smell (bananas, cloves, Bread dough) Bubblegum as well

Yes wheat banana bread in a glass flavors as well a nice citrus bite

Mouthfeel is exceptional a little heaver than I expected for a wheat beer, nice crisp carbonation on your tongue.

Great drinking Hefeweizen I'll repeat the statements made before me I cant believe it was this good coming from a growler. Thanks again to JDV on shipping it right. If you have the fortunes to get a growler I say go for it. My new favorite Hefeweizen

growler pour, thanks to Jason (Exiled) for another quality trade. served in a tall Franzi Weiss glass

A - pours over an inch of loose, bubbly and sudsy bright white foam. the beer is cloudy, pale gold in color.

S - bright and lively yeast: banana, citrus, green apples. lightly spiced with clove and cinnamon, some ginger on a bed of wheat and grains.

T - what sets this apart from just about every other Hefe I've had is the balance, instead of being fruit or spice heavy it starts out with some ripe bananas, apples, and citrus notes before turning to the other side. hints of cloves and spice dance upon wheat malt and biscuits, before a crisp and clean grainy finish.

M - body is on the lighter side of the style, with sharp and prickly yet not overdone carbonation. only missing that bit of creaminess you get from others, due to lack of body. finishes with strong lingering fruit, slightly dry and very clean.

D - without a doubt one of the most drinkable beers I've ever had. wonderful, full flavor yet light bodied and a very manageable ABV. this takes some will power to not chug down. great, yet unique example of a classic style. shame its so hard to get.

22 oz glowing, label-less bottle

LO Hefe pours a hazy, pale yellow color with a good bubble show directly after the pour. It sports a 1/2 inch white head with small plumes of rising carbonation. The nose is big and fruity, loads of banana notes, apple, melon and a soft wheat/yeast aroma. The grainy texture that appears immediately while tasting soon turns creamy as the semi-spicy wheat notes balance out with the citrusy hop character. Other tasting notes or orange rind, nuts, yeast, pepper and cloves. This is a good beer, definitely a solid hefe... not for the weak. Good drinkability.

The second pour was much more hazy in appearance , causing a bigger yeast tone throughout the rest of the glass.

Served on tap into a shaker glass.

A- Poured a hazy and bright golden color with frothy white head that left chunky lace.

S- Big pear, bubblegum, clove, citrusy, and banana notes in the aroma. A big juicy fruitiness and some astringency in the aroma.

T- Big tangy banana, juicy citrusy notes, bubblegum, clove, and light pear notes. Very juicy.

M- Prickly carbonation, very smooth, medium body, dry, and refreshing.

O- This is a world class and full-flavored hefeweizen. I am very impressed and this is among the most complex and flavorful hefeweizens I have ever had as someone who loves the style.

Pours a cloudy bright golden sunrise color with a tall and frothy white head that slowly dissipates in segments leaving a thick and rocky lace behind that coats the walls of the glass with glistening spider webs. Nose is rich creamy banana, sweet bubblegum, fruity esters, and a bit of spicy clove. It has a very smooth and creamy texture that seems to be just perfect in the mouth. The taste, like the aroma, is rather bold in nature with juicy ripe banana, spicy clove, and vanilla followed by a bit of white pepper. Simply delicious. Drinkability approaches infinity. This is a truly magnificent beer.

A great beer to start my reviews with. So I crack the growler from JonathanL7890. Thank You Sooo Muuuch. As a Hefe lover I'm salivating and holding my expectations in check. Here goes...

WOW! A beautiful orangey gold that I cannot see through, a little murk in the glass. A thick creamy head rises and parks itself atop the brew as it sits in my Sisson's weiss glass ( My standard for hefe reviews as it may not be fair to use specific glasses unless you have them all ). Carbonation bubbles are present but not overly active. Five or seven minutes later it recedes to a thin layer that remains through the consumption. Beautiful lacing decorates my drinking vessel.

My nose is enticed by a mix of banana esters and spicy notes in the back of the throat. A deep wheat malt aroma cuts in and out between yeasty lemony notes and I smile in anticipation. Citrus and cloves tease the olfactory to the point of no return. I pick up the glass.

GLUG, banana and wheat malt. GLUG, lemon, and bubblegum. GLUG, clove and pepperyness. . GLUG, fruity yeast featuring a mild tart to sour apple and maybe light grape with mild hops in the finish, drying the palate in preparation for the next deep mouthful. Banana and malt linger deliciously. Is that a vanilla note? Yes. Sweetly dry. Help!! I'm hooked!! The flavors swirl in and out in a beautiful dance on my tounge. My nose quivers with each taste. Imagine the perfect hefe taste profile. Think of every one you've had and take your favorite aspects of them. Put them together. This is what I'm drinking. What you drink hefe for, it's all in this glass. One growler is barely enough.

The mouthfeel is a sublimely weighted light medium. Creamy velvet in its texture. Carbonation never detracts but is present in all the right ways, keeping the mouth tickled and alive.

Drinkable? Are you kidding? This is the paradigm of a quaffable, session beer. Bring it on!!

More, More, More!!! I agree with vitopeperoni. Buy some kind of dwelling in Austin and move. Great town, music scene, and incredible brewing ( too bad Pierre Celis is gone ). If you are a hefe hound, get this beer at any cost.

Poured a cloudy yellowish orange with no noticeable head. There was a nice bread yeasty, banana, clove aroma. The flavors in this beers are perfectly balanced and delicious. A clove, banana, yeast flavor that mixes very well with a citrusy flavor. The finish is smooth clean and crisp and slightly bitter due to the sweet lemony citrus flavor. Incredible drinkability. I was sitting out in the beergarden, 80 degrees and the sun shining. It was the perfect beer for that occasion.
